1. Young Yeying

Noguchi Yeying, who grew up in a single-parent family, was not confident. Young Yeying participated in an English competition on the recommendation of her teacher. She felt that she could not compete with those contestants because she had never studied abroad, so she backed down. With the encouragement of the male protagonist, Yeying regained her confidence and stood on the podium. She stood out among the returning contestants and won the second prize. The title of her speech was "I Have a Dream".

What is Yeying’s dream? On a hot sunny afternoon, the ice cream in her hand melted and dripped, and a plane flew over Ye Ying's head. The sound of the plane's steam made her feel at ease. In the noisy airport, she approached the male protagonist and whispered in her ear that my dream is to become a flight attendant.

University student Yeying worked hard while studying hard to pursue her dream. Finally, she obtained the qualification to study abroad at the University of Vancouver. She excitedly applied for her passport and prepared to study abroad.

When everything was going well, a car accident changed the trajectory of her life. Yeying lost her memory and forgot everything in these years. When she opened the album and saw the photos from the past, everything seemed so strange and unreal. She chose to escape, seal the album away, and hide her past self.

2. Yeying after divorce

Yeying got married to her attending physician. She dropped out of school because of her pregnancy and became a stay-at-home mother. But because of the disparity in social status between her and her husband's family, she has endured her mother-in-law's cynicism for many years. Later, her husband cheated on her and her mother-in-law humiliated her. Yeying finally couldn't bear the outburst anymore and chose to divorce.

Yeying became a single mother. She did not have a high degree of education or social experience, so she had to work in a factory day and night. However, she was fired because her son was sick and asked for leave several times. Due to the pressure of reality, Yeying had no choice but to leave the child to her ex-husband to raise.

Life has turned upside down. Yeying once dreamed of going abroad, but she seems to have forgotten. She flipped through her empty passport, melancholy and confused.

Yeying’s mother took out Yeying’s previous speech award certificate and lamented, “How did life become like this?” Yeying grabbed the certificate, tore it up, and said with a low expression: "I'm sorry, it didn't turn out the way you expected."

3. Yeying who pursues her dream

In fact, Yeying’s dream has always been buried in her heart. When she sees a train of flight attendants passing by at the airport, she will be touched, and the seeds in her heart will bubble up. She would also secretly change into her flight attendant uniform in the bathroom, slip on her luggage and confidently walk in the airport hall, helping lost children as a flight attendant.

At the very beginning of the play, young Ye Ying was carrying a schoolbag and walking across the fields. He raised his hand to look at the plane in the sky and murmured to himself: "Please pay attention to passengers." At the end of the play, Yeying regains her memory and embarks on a journey to find love and dreams. As she wished, she wore a flight attendant uniform, stood in front of the passengers, and said the same words as her younger self.

Japanese dramas are often criticized for having a lot of chicken soup for the soul, which is unrealistic, but it is undeniable that chicken soup for the soul can sometimes inspire and cheer you up when you are feeling down and sad. Although this drama uses a very clichéd amnesia plot, it tells a very innovative story. In fact, what Yeying forgot was not her dream, but herself who once bravely pursued her dream. After recovering her memory, she regained her original intention, moved towards her goal, and realized her dream.

Have you ever lost the brave and passionate self you once were? The pace of modern life is so fast that people can lose themselves in the colorful world of materialistic desires and cannot find their direction. When you are confused, you might as well stop, listen to the voice in your heart, and look back at your once brave and passionate self. Maybe you can regain your courage and let a seed buried in your heart take root and germinate.

At the end of the article, I share my favorite passage from the play:

I hope everyone will have the courage to move forward with their heads high and chest high when facing difficulties in life.
