In recent days, plagiarism scandals involving DPP politicians have hit the screen one after another. On December 2, Taoyuan Mayor Cheng Wen-can of the Democratic Progressive Party issued a statement saying that his master's thesis was found to be plagiarized and his degree was revoked by National Taiwan University. The next day, Tsai Sui-sung, a public opinion representative of the Democratic Progressive Party who had participated in the Keelung mayoral election, announced that his doctoral thesis from Taipei University was involved in plagiarism and his doctorate was revoked.
Regarding these two pieces of news, the only person in the Democratic Progressive Party who can be optimistic is probably former Hsinchu Mayor Lin Zhijian. Lin Zhijian had previously had two degrees revoked due to plagiarism in two papers. As a result, he was replaced midway and was disqualified from running for Taoyuan mayor. Now Lin Zhijian is finally no longer alone. Paper plagiarism seems to have become a "popular label" for DPP politicians.
For the Democratic Progressive Party, the good news is that the results of the plagiarism determinations of Zheng Wencan and Tsai Sui were announced after the election. Just imagine, if this scandal was announced before the vote, the vote rate of the DPP camp would be even more disastrous, and anxious constituencies such as Pingtung and Tainan would be overturned due to the turmoil.
Paper plagiarism scandals have exploded one after another. In addition to Chen Mingtong, Tsai Ing-wen is also under the greatest pressure within the Democratic Progressive Party. Chen Mingtong is the master's tutor of Lin Zhijian and Zheng Wencan. He has mentored countless DPP politicians. Nowadays, the academic qualifications of these politicians have been put into question due to Chen Mingtong's breach of trust.
As for the pressure on Tsai Ing-wen, on the one hand, it is manifested in the collapse of the DPP key figures such as Zheng Wencan and Tsai Adaptation, which broke the party chairman’s personnel layout arranged by her, and directly affected the subsequent 2024 general election and the election of public opinion representatives; on the other hand, Tsai Ing-wen’s own London School of Economics and Political Science doctoral thesis text has been questioned. Lin Zhijian's plagiarism of Dongchuang's paper had already been severely criticized by public opinion once before. Now that Zheng Wencan and Tsai Tsai are added to the list, you can imagine Tsai Ing-wen's current situation. As Tsai Ing-wen’s power declines, the day when the truth about her paper will be revealed to the world is probably getting closer. Can Tsai Ing-wen keep the "late festival"?
