A few days ago, my friend from the front line of my hometown called me and chatted for 40 minutes to understand the situation in Hong Kong. Today (7th), the State Council’s Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism issued the "Notice on Further Optimizing and Implementing the Prevention and Control Measures for the New Coronavirus Pneumonia Epidemic", no longer check the negative nucleic acid test certificate and health code for cross-regional mobile personnel, and no longer conduct on-site inspections. The prevention and control of the epidemic in the mainland has been further relaxed.
From being deeply trapped in the valley to reappearing vitality, the experience and lessons learned in Hong Kong in the past 10 months may be the most suitable for reference and reflection.
In the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of local infections and deaths in Hong Kong has always remained at an extremely low level. Last year, there were no local cases for three consecutive months, and there were constant news that the first two places of Christmas will be cleared.
However, with the fifth wave of the epidemic brought about by the "highly contagious and low toxic" Omickron mutant strain in January this year, Hong Kong's previous strategy of "dynamic zeroing" and "early detection, early isolation, and early treatment" was completely defeated, and it also experienced the largest public safety crisis in history.
With the adjustment of the anti-epidemic strategy and the formulation and implementation of the roadmap for restarting, Hong Kong has spent nearly half a year walking out of the shadow of the new crown . In November, it showed that Hong Kong has returned to the international stage by holding three large-scale international events, including the Hong Kong International Seven-player Rugby, the International Financial Leaders Investment Summit, and the Hong Kong Financial Technology Festival.
As of December 6, Hong Kong has had more than 2.17 million confirmed cases, but in fact, many people will not take the initiative to declare them. As early as April, the peak of the epidemic, the University of Hong Kong predicted that about 60% of people in Hong Kong had been infected. Recently, the number of confirmed cases per day has remained at around 8,000, but the society has been completely orderly and vitality has reappeared.
Since a large number of citizens have been naturally infected and have a high vaccination rate, Hong Kong has almost reached national immunity. Scholars from the University of Hong Kong estimate that more than 95% of the population in Hong Kong should currently have an immune barrier against severe illness. As of December 6, 92.9% and 82.6% of Hong Kong's population have completed two and three vaccinations respectively. *
Hong Kong anti-epidemic timeline
Let's quickly review what Hong Kong has experienced this year:
1: Omickron BA.2 subtype spreads into Hong Kong.
2: The tsunami-style outbreak of the epidemic, public hospital emergency rooms and nursing homes became the hardest hit areas, the medical system was broken down, the morgues of public hospitals were overloaded, and the scene of patients and bodies living in the same room in the emergency room shocked the whole country.
3: The school had summer vacation early; all walks of life in the mainland sent medical teams to Hong Kong to donate epidemic prevention materials to Hong Kong; the SAR government adjusted its anti-epidemic strategy under the guidance of the Central Expert Group on Prevention and Control of Hong Kong, shifting from "early detection, early isolation, early treatment" to "reducing death, reducing severe illness, and reducing infection"; promoting diverted stratified treatment, setting up a number of designated hospitals for COVID-19, improving the hospital's ability to treat patients, focusing on taking care of the elderly, and positive patients can choose home isolation treatment.
0 mid-to-late March: The epidemic continues to decline after reaching its peak. With the support of the central government, the SAR government has streamlined resource allocation and announced a roadmap for restarting the fight against the epidemic. It will not conduct mandatory nucleic acid testing for all people, but will instead distribute anti-epidemic materials packages to all people, cancel the flight ban order of some overseas countries, shorten the quarantine time for overseas arrivals to Hong Kong, lift social restrictions in stages, and put forward vaccination rate targets.
4: The SAR government summarized its anti-epidemic strategy as "three reductions, three majors, one priority, four concentrations", that is, reducing deaths, reducing severe illnesses, and reducing infections; key groups, key institutions, and key areas take precise and effective measures; give priority to the treatment of the elderly; concentrate patients, resources, experts, and centralized treatment. On April 21, most social distancing control measures were gradually lifted within three phases and three months. Schools resumed face-to-face teaching, society got back on track, and began to regain vitality.
- html Early 25: Farewell to the mainland medical team aiding Hong Kong.
: Return to Hong Kong overseas to "0+3", no nucleic acid test for before coming to Hong Kong.
1 October to date: Hong Kong is back!
Experience and lessons
From the outbreak of the epidemic to the streamlining of resource allocation, it took Hong Kong at least 2 to 3 weeks. Drugs and antigen detection agents have become scarce during the high incidence of the epidemic. Social productivity declines. For example, the couriers are hit by the "yang" and no one delivers express delivery; the disciplined troops and medical personnel are taken in turn, and the frontline manpower is tight; in addition to medical support, the mainland even sent slaughtermen. A large number of citizens work from home for two or three months. Local schools start summer vacation in March in early in the late spring and cold, and society does not start to get back on track until mid-April.
, but Hong Kong has not been completely relaxed like Singapore. At present, when going to school in Hong Kong, you still need to do a quick antigen test on your own. You need to get a three-dose vaccine pass when entering a restaurant. You also need to wear a mask in addition to exercise. The government also requires people returning to Hong Kong to undergo mandatory nucleic acid tests and not be able to dine in the first three days, and continue to test the sewage in the building. Citizens will be fined HK$10,000 for violating the mandatory nucleic acid testing order.
From this perspective, Hong Kong should provide the most suitable experiences and lessons to learn from. The biggest lesson is that it missed the golden period of popularizing vaccination and failed to protect the elderly. The total death toll of 10,629 people has been reported so far in the epidemic, and more than seven people have become over 80 years old. But it is worth noting that Hong Kong does not distinguish between die with (other underlying diseases accompanied by the new coronavirus) or die from (death due to the new coronavirus); therefore, death data cannot be used as a real reference.
The impact brought by the rising epidemic is inevitable. Individuals should save themselves, that is, be the first person responsible for their own health, prepare medicine for home isolation, and do not go to the hospital to run. Because most people will turn from yang to yin after a few days.
|Home isolation supplies issued by the Hong Kong government include antipyretics, Lianhua Qingwen Capsules, oximeters, , thermometers, quick test agents, etc.
Preparation of medicine and home isolation in Hong Kong
The following are some experiences in preparing medicine and home isolation in Hong Kong, for reference only for mainland friends.
Preparation for medicine:
—The most important thing is to reduce fever. Paracetamol (Tylenol in the Mainland) is essential; if it is burned to 39 degrees or above, use ibuprofen . These two antipyretic drugs can be taken at the same time, but the total amount per day must be strictly controlled. A pediatrician recommends that you should take ibuprofen directly after 38.5 degrees, and then monitor your body temperature every two hours. If the fever still cannot drop after 2 hours, add paracetamol .
The Hong Kong Department of Health’s guidance for confirmed patients to be quarantined at home is to contact the hospital if they cannot recover after taking antipyretics. If you have a fever repeatedly, it is normal. I had a fever for two days, up to 38.5 degrees, accompanied by sore muscles throughout my body, but in just two days I drank four packs of Bilitong’s lemon drink and recovered.
—Sound relief category. throat candy, powder, lotus and Qingwen. Some friends said that the symptoms were "like swallowing blades with raw mouth", and some said that they were sitting on a volcano and coughing intermittently for a month. The lotus is too cool, and a friend caused his aunt to be out of order after eating it.
——Enhance resistance class. vitamin C powder, multivitamin tablets. Eat more high-quality protein, sleep well, let the body resist the virus and speed up self-healing.
As for how many days it turns yin varies from person to person, it usually takes 5-7 days, but several friends and I also took 12 days to turn negative, and the intensity of symptoms of each person is slightly different. If you are a special group with underlying diseases, it is still recommended to go to the hospital.
Home isolation:
——Patients live alone in one room and use a bathroom. It is best to choose a suite with a bathroom as the home isolation point for home. The bathroom is disinfected daily and the room is kept ventilated.
- Avoid contact with others, have a light and healthy diet, put it at the door of the isolation room, and patients use separate tableware.
——Patients maintain sleep and a healthy lifestyle.
—The patient’s domestic waste needs to be bandaged before disposing.
According to many cases around me, some families were infected but others were not infected, and some families took turns to yang and yang at the same time, but no matter what, don’t be afraid or too careless, I hope this winter will pass soon.
