Taiwan media recently reported that the website of the General Administration of Customs of the Mainland shows that the mainland has almost suspended the import of all Taiwanese aquatic products. Only one of the 890 companies related to aquatic products can continue to import, and the rest are all turned away. Among them, squid, saury and wuzai were the most affected, causing public opinion on the island.
According to Taiwanese media, the above-mentioned companies' import qualifications for aquatic products should have expired in May 2023 or March 2024, so they speculated that since Pelosi visited Taiwan, cross-strait relations have fallen to the bottom, and there has been no sign of improvement in recent months. This move cannot be ruled out as the latest countermeasures of the mainland.
In fact, this is not the first time we have taken action against Taiwan’s agricultural and fishery products. Since the beginning of this year, the grouper , leucorrhea , citrus fruits, etc. on the other side have been refused to buy it by the mainland due to quality problems.
However, this time is obviously different from before. If the situation is true, it means that we are serious and no longer only issue bans for a few products, but we can catch them all in one go. As expected, the Taiwan authorities shirked responsibility immediately, saying that they expressed regret and dissatisfaction with the mainland's practices, demanding that the problem be resolved as soon as possible and not create obstacles to cross-strait trade.
Here, there is one thing that needs to be explained. In addition to the need to crack down on "Taiwan independence", every time we take action to counter the DPP authorities, there is actually a basis for compliance with legal norms, and it is not that the other side said that imports are suspended for no reason.
For example, its grouper was returned because of the detection of banned drugs. In August this year, the import of products of thousands of food companies in Taiwan was suspended because they did not complete registration and update within the specified time.
Since April last year, the General Administration of Customs of the Mainland issued an announcement requiring food products sold to the mainland in all regions of the world to be registered in accordance with the new regulations. Companies that do not meet the requirements will not be able to continue exporting to the mainland. So whether the nearly 900 aquatic product companies on the island can do as per our requirements is a question mark.
Of course, no matter what the situation is, aquatic products practitioners in Taiwan will be the biggest losers. A person familiar with the matter revealed that the island's agricultural and fishery products rely heavily on the mainland market, but due to the cold impact of cross-strait relations, business has been quite difficult in recent years.
The above article mentioned in the Wuzi fish as an example. Its export share exceeds more than 60% of the total sales volume, while the export part comes from the mainland and 20% comes from Hong Kong. In other words, if we don’t want it, Taiwan’s Wuzi fish cannot be sold at all.
In fact, there are many similar examples. The Taiwanese authorities used to like to boast about the quality of agricultural and fishery products on the island, which was completely a false hallucination caused by the mainland's policy of benefiting Taiwan. These products on the other side have no competitiveness internationally. The DPP had previously promoted Taiwan's pineapple to Japan, New Zealand and other places, but returned in a defeat.
Frankly speaking, when cross-strait relations are good, it is enough to discuss small trade disputes between the two sides, which is not a big deal. But the DPP authorities are still behaved when they get cheap. While making money from trade, they also clamor for not relying on the mainland market and even frequently provoking them. Naturally, they have to suffer a little.
plus the epidemic in recent years, many mainland aquatic products companies are also facing many difficulties. Of course, we will give priority to the interests of mainland manufacturers.
In addition, after December, external forces set off another wave of interference in the Taiwan Strait issue. In just a few days, officials from five countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Poland, , Japan successively released news to visit Taiwan.
, especially the United States, recently announced the seventh arms sales to Taiwan during its tenure in , and its actions are very bad. First of all, this is certainly because , Washington wants to curb our rise and is playing the "Taiwan card", but as the saying goes, a slap cannot be slapped. The DPP authorities will accept all the slap and accept all the external forces with bad intentions, and naturally they also need to bear great responsibility.
Finally, it should be emphasized that under the new situation in the Taiwan Strait, we will inevitably increase the efforts to "anti-independence and promote unification". The hard ones will be harder and softer, but not necessarily softer. If the DPP authorities are obsessed with it, what awaits them will only be stricter countermeasures.
