The new generation of the United States stealth bomber B-21 was officially unveiled on December 3. Although the B-21, which has a series of dazzling functions such as full-band stealth and open structure, has been crowned the title of "sixth generation" by the US military, all its leading areas than B-2 are actually the result of normal iteration of technology, rather than unique innovations. Therefore, the appearance of B-21 is not as amazing as the original appearance of B-2. In the final analysis, B-21 still follows the old path of B-2. In order to control costs, the fuselage size has also been greatly reduced, and it has been downgraded from strategic bomber to a quasi-strategic bomber of the same level as H-6K. But no matter what, the B-21 is also the top bomber in the world, and it is still coming to China. Now the pressure is coming to the H-20 side. So are our H-20 ready? The answer is naturally ready, and this time we may do better than the United States. Chief He Shengqiang, head of the R&D team of
H-6 series aircraft, revealed earlier in an interview with CCTV: "I also believe that the design of future bombers' combat usage patterns and technical standards should be in our hands, and we should be the leader. At present, we are constantly improving and optimizing the new generation of bombers. China must not only be the designer of future advanced bombers, but also become the developer of technical standards and the leader of future bomber combat models." Chief He's words show that the H-20, which has not yet been unveiled, may have a surprising subversive design.
So which part of the disruptive innovative design of H-20 will be? An article published by the Russian military website "Military Website" today introducing the of the US B-21 bomber gives one possible answer, that is, it can be equipped with hypersonic missile built-in.
"Military Website" points out that the B-21 is a continuation of the stealth bomber series with advanced stealth technology. According to Northrop Grumman, the B-21 is the world's first sixth-generation fighter jet, capable of carrying conventional weapons and nuclear weapons , and plans to equip it with hypersonic missiles in the future. But Grumman needs to think about how to solve the problem of the B-21's internal bullet bay adapting them (hypersonic missiles). The Military Website believes that the AGM-183A hypersonic missile, which is being tested on the B-52 bomber, obviously cannot be loaded into the internal ammunition cabin of the B-21. The B-21 cannot carry hypersonic missiles using external mounting methods, which will not only destroy the stealth capability, but even the most advanced flight control system cannot solve the problem of external ammunition for fighter jets deployed with flying wings.
So, the United States will have to change the size of the hypersonic missile itself, such as using an aspirated hypersonic cruise missile. The advantage of this type of hypersonic missile is that the missile directly obtains oxygen from the air and does not require a self-contained oxidant, so the missile size can be very small, which is suitable for fighter jets such as B-21 with smaller built-in ammunition compartment size. However, the disadvantages of this type of hypersonic missile are also very obvious, that is, it is limited by the angle of attack of the intake channel of the supercombustion engine, and its maneuverability is worse than that of the gliding hypersonic missile. In the future, it will be easy to be intercepted by the anti-missile system for hypersonic missiles under development. Moreover, since it flies in the atmosphere throughout the whole journey, the flight resistance is greater and the range is shorter than that of hypersonic boosted gliding bombs.
and hypersonic boost glider bullets do not have the above problems. Therefore, the best way is to have both types of hypersonic missiles built-in, so that the B-21's long-range attack capability can be achieved. However, the size of the hypersonic boost gliding bullet is very huge, and the built-in bullet casing of the B-21 cannot be carried. Therefore, the Military Website believes that the B-21's combat power is actually flawed. The function on the H-20 that can be called "leading the combat usage mode and technical standard for future bombers" obviously includes the ability to "mount two hypersonic missiles in built-in".Why do you say so? First of all, the B-21 just said that it will be equipped with hypersonic missiles in the future, and it does not have this capability at present. In addition, the US hypersonic missile has not yet been developed and has not been successfully developed. It is even more distant to adapt to the B-21 hypersonic missile. Both types of hypersonic missiles in our country are ready-made. Secondly, it is because the H-20 is a strategic bomber with a size and tonnage equivalent to the B-2 (and possibly even larger), and the built-in bomb bay is easy to load into a hypersonic boost glider bomb.
As for why the H-20 has not appeared for a long time, it is most likely because it has opened up a new path for the future development of bombers, and new combat usage models and technical standards need to be polished. And the B-21 only debuted before the H-20, not before the H-20 first flight. I believe that with the appearance of the B-21, the public debut of the H-20 is approaching.
