The 30 seats for the 7th Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's functional group sector election were announced on the morning of the 20th. At this point, all 90 seats of the 7th Legislative Council were successfully formed.

 This election is the first Legislative Council election after improving the electoral system of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. According to the " Annex II to the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Basic Law of the People's Republic of China and the voting procedures for the Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region " revised by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the new Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Legislative Council consists of 90 members, including 40 members elected by the Election Committee, 30 members elected by functional groups and 20 members elected directly by the district.

 After the voting ended on the 19th, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam issued a statement saying that she sincerely thanked the more than 1.3 million voters who voted on that day. The voting on that day was conducted openly, fairly and honestly, and the overall process went roughly smoothly. The SAR government is confident that the SAR Legislative Council, formed after improving the electoral system, will effectively improve the governance efficiency of the SAR and open a new chapter for good politics and good governance.

  The term of office of the 7th Legislative Council of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region will begin on January 1, 2022, with a term of 4 years.
