In the movie "Remember",
90-year-old Zefu is a survivor of the "Nazi concentration camp" in World War II. He suffers from Alzheimer's disease and his memory doesn't even remember the fact that his wife just died.
In our opinion, Zefu should stay in the sanatorium for treatment and enjoy the family happiness of children surrounding their knees.
But Zefu is not ready to do this. He wants to accomplish one thing before all memories disappear, that is revenge .
In Zef's memories, he and his family were imprisoned in Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. Zef's family was killed, and he was the only one who escaped.
The prisoner's number tattooed on Zefu's arm is the sign that he had been in the concentration camp.
Although 70 years have passed, by chance, Zefu's memory was "awakened" and he began to plan to revenge the Nazi officer who killed his family.
In people's impression, movies with revenge as the theme are nothing more than these two points: bloody and cruel plot; Avengers with agile action.
For example, in " Kill Bill ", the bride who breaks out of the sea of blood in " Kill Bill ", is a typical character in the revenge movie.
"Remember" is very different from the traditional revenge movie. The Avengers are an old man in their twilight years and suffer from severe Alzheimer's disease. How can this plot continue?
But after watching the entire video, Pi Ge especially wanted to give this movie five stars.
Because it completely subverts the routine of traditional revenge films, it not only has a particularly gripping suspense, but finally sublimates the theme of the film with profound human nature.
A killer who will forget the past and forget the revenge plan at any time must have a helper.
In the sanatorium, Zeff met an old man named Max. During the chat, Zeff learned that Max had the same experience as him, and his family was also brutally killed in Auschwitz.
Max holds the whereabouts of the murderer: this officer, whose real name is Otto Valesh, stolen the identity of the dead prisoner, and his pseudonym Rudy Kuland moved to the United States to live.
He spent many years finding four German immigrants named Rudy Kuland. If nothing unexpected happens, the murderer is among these four.
Because Max was paralyzed and unable to walk, this revenge mission fell on Zeff.
In view of Zeff's situation, Max wrote everything he planned on the letter paper, prepared cash, bought the tickets, booked the hotel, and prepared everything.
Just like that, Zeff embarked on the journey of revenge alone without telling everyone except Max.
But it is too difficult to achieve revenge. Zefu's symptoms are getting worse and worse. Often, when he wakes up, he forgets everything.
For example, on the train, he treated a boy as his grandson and forgot why he was on the train.
If this letter were not available, Zefu's journey of revenge might have come to an abrupt end and ended with being sent back to the nursing home.
Following the clue, Zeff came to the location of the first Rudy and bought an Glock pistol in the store selling guns.
According to the address found by Max, Zef found Rudy, who was already old. It could be seen that he was not in good health and had to rely on crutches to walk.
What disappointed Zef was that this Rudy was not the person he was looking for: he was fighting in North Africa at the time, and had never been to Auschwitz, and there were photos and documents as evidence.
Then Zef came to a nursing home and found a second Rudy.
He admitted to staying in Auschwitz, but not as a Nazi soldier, but a prisoner - because of his homosexuality.
It's obvious that Zefu is looking for not him.
After two setbacks, Zefu seemed tired and confused. He felt his fragility and didn't know if he could hold on.
The long road is, he can only rely on himself, and this letter.
From Zefu's emphasis on the letter, it can be seen that he is actually extremely eager for revenge. After his wife's death, this almost became the meaning of his survival.
came to the third Rudy's house, but Zef learned that he had passed away. During the conversation with Rudy's son, Zef discovered that Rudy and his son were both fanatical Nazis.
They do not be ashamed of being a Nazi, but regard it as supreme glory, so when it comes to his father and his collection, Rudy's son's tone is full of pride.
Rudy's son told Zeff that his father's biggest regret was that he failed to enter Auschwitz - so he was not the murderer Zeff was looking for.
At this time, Rudy's son accidentally discovered the number on Zefu's arm. After learning that Zefu was a Jew, he changed his enthusiasm and insulted Zefu.
In a panic, Zefu shot and killed Rudy's son. The situation was completely out of control, and Zefu fell deeper and deeper on this road of no return.
Looking at this old man who is revenged, everyone hopes that he can completely forget everything and return to his ordinary daily life.
But whenever he forgets everything, the letter is like a bomb, allowing him to suddenly wake up from the chaos and continue his mission ·····
Now, there is only one Rudy left.
Before he could see the true appearance of Rudy, Zefu just heard his voice and felt familiar.
Based on intuition, Zefu determined that this Rudy was the person he was looking for.
Surprisingly, Rudy seemed very enthusiastic about Zef, shook hands and hugged, which surprised and angry.
Zefu took out his pistol and questioned Rudy sternly, but the other party seemed confused.
Under Zef's coercion, Rudy admitted that she had worked as a guard in the prison in Auschwitz and had also killed many Jews.
Just when we thought this revenge was about to end, the story ushered in a shocking reversal.
Rudy told Zeff that he is Otto Valesh, and Zeff, like himself, is a prison guard in Auschwitz.
The prisoner numbers on his and Zefu's arms were to escape sanctions and tattoo each other.
Zefu is not the victim, but the executioner.
This is not Zeff's revenge, but Max's carefully designed revenge.
Mc had known Zeff's identity for a long time, but with his physical condition, he could not complete his revenge at all.
So he approached Zeff in the name of his friend, used his Alzheimer's disease to instill in him those "memories" that did not exist.
In fact, many foreshadowings have been laid in the film, such as Zeff's familiarity with the Glock pistol and his ability to shoot Rudy's son so accurately when he shot him in the head, which shows that he has received professional training.
There is a scene that left a deep impression on Brother Pi, which is the close-up of the shower head presented by Zefu when he was taking a shower at the angle of the upward shooting.
This has to be reminiscent of the shower heads that had released poison gas to kill Jews in the gas chambers in the concentration camp.
The picture shows the gas chamber in the concentration camp. The shower head has been removed. The video ended. Zefu remembered his identity, but he found it difficult to accept this reality.
He shot Rudy to death, and then pointed the gun at his head.
After a gunshot, everything was silent.
video is not intended to criticize a certain person, but to use this revenge story to make people realize that the root cause of all tragedies is a ruthless war.
War makes people lose themselves, and makes people willingly become a devil and a slave to war.
Even though the war has long passed, the ghost of the war still exists. It allows the identities of former victims and perpetrators to be interchanged, and a tragedy is brewing.
"Remember" allows people to see clearly the destruction of war on human nature and the indelible trauma caused by it.
It makes people afraid of war and hate war even more from the bottom of their hearts.
