On October 18, Foxconn officially released the pure electric vehicle brand - Foxtron on Hon Hai Technology Day. At the same time, Foxconn also released three new electric models - the mid-size SUV Model C, the medium-sized sedan Model E and the electric bus Model T. The three models will be manufactured by Honghua Advanced Company (hereinafter referred to as "Honghua Advanced"), a joint venture between Foxconn and automaker Yulon Automobile Co., Ltd. This is the first time Foxconn has shown its products to the outside world after it announced its car manufacturing.

Model C is Honghua Advanced's first model built by MIH electric vehicle open platform. The platform will also be used on Yulon's Luxgen and CMC brands. The new car adopts a two-color body and a closed front face shape, which is more technologically matched with a through-type light group. The power is equipped with a front and rear dual motor four-wheel drive system, with a comprehensive output of 300kW and 700N·m, a wind resistance of 0.27Cd, an acceleration of 3.8s per 100 kilometers, and a pure electric range of 700km. It is expected to be launched in 2023.

Another medium and large sedan Model E was driven by , founder of Hon Hai Precision Group , in person at the press conference. Model E is jointly created by Hon Hai and the well-known Italian design company Pininfarina . The car length is 5.1m, width is 2m, wheelbase is 3.1m, and the size is close to pure electric medium and large sedans such as NIO ET7 and Zhiji L7. The interior uses a dual screen and a floating island, and the horizontally through-type hidden air conditioner outlet is extremely simple. The power is equipped with dual front and rear motors, with a maximum power of 150kW and 340kW respectively. The performance version only needs 2.8s to accelerate from 100 kilometers, and comes with electronic limited slip and active suspension, with a pure electric range of 750km.

pure electric bus Model T adopts a relatively simple design, with a maximum power of 260kW and a peak torque of 700N·m torque output, and uses a lithium iron phosphate battery. The car's typical range is 250km and its maximum range can reach 320km. Foxconn said that the Model T met the Federal Transportation Administration's regulations and standards, and has completed 200,000 kilometers of durability tests and more than 1,000 hours of rigid strength tests, proving the safety of the vehicle. According to foreign media reports, electric buses with the Foxtron logo will work with a local transportation service provider to start operating in several cities in southern Taiwan next year.

For a long time, Foxconn has been well-known to the public for "manufacture of Apple ", but in fact, Foxconn has long made plans in the automotive field. In 2005, Foxconn acquired 100% equity of Taiwan Antai Electric for 370 million , and began the technology and manufacturing research and development of automotive lithium battery power systems, and entered the automotive-related fields. In 2013, Foxconn became a supplier of car companies such as BMW , Tesla, and Mercedes-Benz. In 2016, Foxconn invested in Didi and officially entered the online car-hailing industry. In 2017, Foxconn invested in CATL .

In the past two years, Foxconn has taken action everywhere and increased its investment in the field of automobile manufacturing. In 2021, Foxconn and Geely signed a strategic cooperation agreement, and the two parties established a joint venture; then, Foxconn, announced that its subsidiary Fuzhikang (FIH Mobile) and Stellantis signed a joint venture agreement to establish a joint venture company Mobile Drive, focusing on the development of smart cockpits. In addition, Foxconn also cooperates with American startup Fisker and Byton Automobile, a new car-making force in China.

car manufacturing will also open a new track for Foxconn, which mainly focuses on OEM, and Foxconn will also compete with its "school" BYD in the OEM field. In addition to the well-known new energy vehicle , BYD is also one of the giants in the field of OEM. BYD's 2020 financial report shows that the operating income of mobile phone components, assembly and other products reached 60.043 billion yuan, accounting for 38.34% of BYD's operating income. Well-known mobile phone manufacturers such as Apple, Huawei , Xiaomi are all BYD's customers.

At present, in the Chinese automobile market, BYD is on a road of rapid development. According to data from the China Passenger Car Association, BYD's new car sales reached 79,037 units in September, a year-on-year increase of 93.2%, and increased by 16.9% month-on-month. Among them, new energy sales hit a new high, reaching 70,022 vehicles, with rising 276.4% year-on-year compared with .

Foxconn has set clear operating goals: It is expected that pure electric vehicles will account for 5% of their manufacturing revenue by 2025, with a revenue scale of US$30 billion, of which 40% of the spare parts are made by Hon Hai Group . As the "predecessor" of the OEM industry and the "senior" of the automobile industry, whether Foxconn can copy or even surpass BYD is worth paying attention to.
