At present, among the "founding generals" group, the marshal, general, general, and lieutenant general have all passed away, and the six surviving veteran generals are founding major generals. Among the six founding major generals who are alive, 2 were awarded the title in 1955, 1 was awarded the title in 1961, and 3 were awarded the title in 1964.

Among them, the two surviving generals who were awarded the title in 1955 were: Zou Yan, former deputy political commissar of the Shenyang Military Region, and Yang Yongsong, former political commissar of the Beijing Military Region Engineering Soldier. The surviving major general who was awarded the title in 1961 was: Zhang Lixiong, former political commissar of the Jiangxi Military Region. General Wang Haishang, former commander of the People's Liberation Army Air Force, passed away in Beijing on the morning of August 2, 2020 at the age of 94. This means that only two generals of the Republic who were awarded the title in 1988 were left, namely: Chi Haotian (1929) and Wan Haifeng (1920).

In addition, according to a previous exclusive report by The Paper, General Yang Dezhong, former first deputy director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and former director of the Security Bureau of the General Office of the Central Committee, passed away in Beijing on November 12, 2020 at the age of 97. It is worth mentioning that Yang Dezhong has worked with Zhou Enlai for nearly 10 years and has served as the Party Secretary of the Xihua Hall of Zhongnanhai for a long time.

Yang Dezhong has visited many countries including Asia, Africa, Europe and other countries with Zhou Enlai, and has visited various parts of the country with Zhou Enlai many times to participate in important foreign affairs activities. He has successfully completed the task and has been fully affirmed by Zhou Enlai.

Just one day later, Lieutenant General Zhou Jiading, former secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of the National Defense University, passed away in Beijing on November 13 at the age of 98. Zhou Jiading was born in 1922 and served as the military secretary of Premier Zhou Enlai. In 1988, he was awarded the rank of lieutenant general. It is worth noting that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army's fight against the United States and aid Korea. Many of these fallen generals have rushed to the Korean battlefield.

For example, in the air battle against the United States and aid Korea, Wang Hai shot down and injured 9 enemy aircraft, and successively won the second-class merit, first-class merit, and special merit, and was awarded the title of "First-class Combat Hero" by the Air Force. The "Wang Hai Brigade" he led fought more than 80 fierce battles with the US Air Force, known as the "world ace", shot down and injured 29 enemy planes, and was awarded the first-class collective merit.

In the Second Battle of Resisting U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, Zhan Danan led his troops to wipe out a reinforced regiment of the US military (known as the "Polar Bear Regiment"), creating a model battle to wipe out a reinforced regiment of the US military.
