Taipei Zoo spokesperson Cao Xianshao said in an interview with a reporter from " Global Times " that the zoo will arrange mourning activities for "Tuantuan" as soon as possible.
Cao Xianshao said that "Tuantuan" is a representative animal that witnesses cross-strait friendship. The zoo will definitely arrange mourning activities, but because the whole process from the onset of the disease to the death of "Tuantuan", the staff need some time to prepare, "We will arrange it as soon as possible."
When asked whether he would find a new spouse for another giant panda, "Yuanyuan", Cao Xianshao said that "Yuanyuan" is 18 years old this year, and in terms of the age of the panda's growth, he has passed the age of "marriage-friendly" , "We hope to take good care of Yuanyuan now and let it live happily, and will not consider finding a new spouse anymore. Cao Xianshao said that the zoo will conduct pathological analysis of "Tuantuan" according to convention, especially whether there are lesions and the degree of lesions in the brain of "Tuantuan", and as many methods as possible will be arranged for analysis and examination. Cao Xianshao said that Tuantuan's body will retain fur and bone specimens. In addition, technical means will be used to retain "tuantuan" living cells as much as possible.
"Tuantuan" turned 18 this year and came to Taiwan with "Yuanyuan" in December 2008. Since settling home at Taipei City Zoo in 2008, "Tuantuan" and "Yuanyuan" have been loved by Taiwanese compatriots. They have given birth to "Yuanzai" and "Yuanbao" in 2013 and 2020.
