Google has closed its own cloud gaming service platform Stadia, but it still launches Chromebooks that focus on cloud gaming through cooperation with many manufacturers. Recently, Google announced a collaboration with Lenovo, Acer and Asus to launch a cloud gaming Chromebook, supporting cloud gaming platforms such as Microsoft Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) and NVIDIA GeForce Now.
Last month, Google released the Framework Laptop Chromebook Edition, which focuses on ease of repair and customizability. Chromebooks launched today include Lenovo's Ideapad Gaming Chromebook, Acer Chromebook 516 GE and ASUSChromebook Vibe CX55 Flip, which focuses on cloud gaming experience.
Google says that the above three Chromebooks are equipped with high-resolution screens above 120Hz, and some models are also equipped with RGB gaming keyboards, anti-ghosting capabilities, immersive audio and WiFi 6 or 6E connections. Wifi 6E is also recently launched as the Nest WiFi Pro, which supports radio frequency bands up to 6GHz.
The frame rates of these laptops are 120 frames per second, and the game console level input latency is less than 85 milliseconds. According to Google, the features were tested by a performance measurement platform called GameBench. In addition, the company has announced a partnership with NVIDIA to provide GeForce Now’s RTX 3080-level subscription support, supporting cloud gaming with resolutions up to 1600p.
Google says: "RTX 3080 membership also enhances your gaming experience with features like ray tracing, which simulates how light behaves in the real world, making the visuals super realistic. The GeForce NOW app will be pre-installed on the gaming Chromebook, so it will be easier to access your favorite games."
In addition, Google has partnered with Microsoft to introduce Beta Xbox cloud games to Chromebooks through web applications. The app adds a variety of games accessed through Xbox's Game Pass Ultimate subscription, such as Forza Horizon 5 and Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Therefore, the partnership allows the latest Chromebook running platforms NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna and Beta Xbox Cloud Gaming. Google recommends that Chromebooks do not need to be downloaded or installed before running games; users can search for the game they want on the platform of their choice by clicking the Everything button on the Chromebook.
