Japan has "Kanto Region" and "Kanto Region ". According to the literal meaning, it is the east and west side of "guan". But do you know where this "guan" actually refers to?

However, the areas referred to are roughly the same, and there will be some small differences.
In Japanese history, the concepts of Kansai and Kanto have also been changing with the changes of the times. When the law system was still adopted in ancient Japan, the country was divided into ", Wuji, Qidao, ". The Five Ki refers to the five ruling countries in the capital and its surrounding areas. The "Kinki" we call comes from here, including Yama Castle, Yamato, Hanoi, , Izumi and Sezu. The roughly the scope is today's Kyoto, Nara, , Osaka and Hyogo.
And the areas outside the five capitals are named after "dao", and each region has an official road of the same name leading to the capital. These seven routes are Tokaido, Toshiyama Road, Hokuriku Road, Sanyin Road, Sanyang Road, Nankaido and Xikaido . However, Hokkaido is not one of the seventh Avenues at that time, and the naming of Hokkaido was in the Meiji period.
In order to protect the Gyeonggi area at that time, three famous guards were set up. They were Suzuka guards on Tokai Road, Bubiao guards on Tokshan Road and Aifa guards on Hokuriku Road. The areas in these three Kanto are called "Kanto", and the scope is much larger than what we call the Kanto region today. Although Guandong was mentioned at that time, there might not be any such statement as Kansai. After all, Kansai was the political center of Japan at that time, so there was no need to name the area where the capital was located based on the location of the Guandong office.
Some people say that the name of Kansai originated in the mid-term of Heian era . At that time, Aifaguan was abolished and replaced by Einakaguan. The area west of the new Sanguan is called Kansai.
Later Source Laicho founded Kamakura shogun in Kamakura , calling the area directly under the jurisdiction of Shogun "General's Family Leadership", and Kanto's territory was called "Kanto Imperial Leadership", and Kanto became synonymous with Kamakura Shogun. In contrast, the place where the emperor is located is called Kansai, and the expression of "Kansai" has already appeared in the historical book "My Wife Mirror" at that time.
When it was Edo period , the word "Kan Yashu" appeared, referring to the eight vassal states in the Kanto region, including Ueno, Shino, Sagami, Musashi, Tori, Ueno, Shimo, and Anfang. The included areas are roughly equivalent to today's Gunma Prefecture , Tochigi Prefecture , Ibaraki Prefecture , Saitama Prefecture , Tokyo and Chiba Prefecture , which is very close to the Kanto area we are talking about today.
, and Kansai began to refer to areas around Kyoto and Osaka, which is much different from the previous range.
However, even today, there is no consensus on what places Kansai includes.Now when it comes to Kansai, the general understanding is that it includes Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, Shiga, Wakayama, and other four prefectures.
