However, according to TSMC's plan to build a factory in the United States, mass production will not begin until 2024, and 5nm will not be the most advanced by then. If Intel cannot break through 7nm by then, the gap will be more than two generations.
Sometimes it takes four or five years for a generation of technology to reach the threshold. Therefore, controlling technology and maintaining the lead is the second goal.
The third purpose is to occupy market share and lead the industry
TSMC's customer orders are basically from the United States, such as Apple, Intel, IBM, AMD, etc., all cooperate with TSMC chip foundry.

The gap between the first and second is obvious, but Samsung successfully mass-produced 5nm in the fourth quarter of this year and released the first 5nm chip Exynos 1080.
There is no doubt that Samsung is TSMC's biggest competitor, and Samsung also mass-produced 5nm. By then, TSMC will not be the only company that can produce 5nm.
