On May 15, TSMC announced that it plans to build a wafer factory with a cost of about US$12 billion in , Arizona, USA.
Mainland Chinese Media Observer Network reported on May 15th Beijing time that TSMC said in a statement that the factory will use a 5nm process process to produce semiconductor chips, with a planned production capacity of 20,000 chips per month, which can create up to 1,600 jobs and create thousands of job opportunities in the semiconductor industry ecosystem.
's new factory is planned to start construction in 2021 and start production in 2024. From 2021 to 2029, TSMC's expenditure on this project (including capital expenditure) will be approximately US$12 billion.
TSMC said it looks forward to continuing to consolidate its partnership with the U.S. authorities and Arizona on this project. TSMC is confident in the future success of this investment and its supply chain partner investment.
TSMC currently has a fab in Camas, Washington, USA, and design centers in Austin, the capital of Texas, and , California, , San Jose.
Rizona factory will become TSMC's second production base in the United States.
According to Reuters earlier, TSMC has been discussing the issue of building factories in the United States with the U.S. Department of Commerce, Department of Defense and Apple, its largest client.
TSMC plans to set up factories in the United States, but the general trend of the integrated circuit industry transferring to the Asia-Pacific will not change as a result.
