This is the fifth consecutive year that the CIIE has been held in Shanghai. Qualcomm will also participate in the CIIE for five consecutive years, displaying leading technologies in 5G, AI, XR, Internet of Vehicles, Internet of Things and other fields, as well as application practices in various vertical fields, including 5G boundless XR event experience, Snapdragon XR fantasy journey, digital cockpit and other rich display content, allowing people to preview the beautiful life brought by 5G in advance.
Looking back on the years of the CIIE, we can find that this is also the five years since 5G, as a new generation of mobile communication technology, has achieved commercial use from scratch and from scratch to large-scale. Data released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that as of the end of August, the total number of 5G base stations in my country reached 2.102 million, and the number of 5G mobile phone users reached 492 million. These impressive achievements are undoubtedly the result of extensive and in-depth cooperation among all parties in the industry in the past five years. Public information of
shows that as early as January 2018, before 5G was launched, Chinese terminal manufacturers such as Xiaomi , OPPO, vivo and other Chinese terminal manufacturers jointly launched the "5G Pilot Plan" with Qualcomm to accelerate the development of 5G mobile phones and other products, and prepare for the implementation of 5G applications. At the first CIIE that year, Qualcomm showed a 5G mobile test platform (MTP) with a shape similar to that of a smartphone, allowing viewers to perceive the high-speed connection brought by 5G in advance. The new 5G air-interoperability test (IoDT) based on MTP also laid an important foundation for the official commercialization of 5G.

During the second CIIE , Qualcomm displayed 5G commercial mobile phones launched by many Chinese manufacturers, achieving the perfect turn of "exhibits to commodities" at the CIIE. Many Chinese manufacturers have also used the "5G Pilot Plan" to form a first-mover advantage, taking the lead in seizing the new development opportunities brought by 5G to accelerate the expansion of domestic and foreign markets. For example, Xiaomi MIX3 5G version and OPPO Reno 5G version are the first 5G commercial mobile phones to land in Europe, which have successfully attracted many local consumers. In recent years, 5G has also become the standard configuration for popular and best-selling products in the smartphone market. Since the launch of the "5G Pilot Program", the global market share of China's top five manufacturers has increased by more than one-third, and brand awareness and reputation have also been further improved.
In addition to the ever-maturing 5G products, 5G network construction and industry applications are also constantly advancing. In 2019, my country entered the first year of 5G commercialization, achieving synchronization with the world. Operators are actively promoting the construction of 5G commercial networks across the country. In 2020, my country proposed to accelerate the construction of new infrastructure such as 5G networks and data centers. Among them, 5G is defined as an important basic technology leading the "new infrastructure", and the coverage of 5G network is expanding rapidly. In 2021, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and ten other departments jointly issued the "5G Application "Showing Sail" Action Plan (2021-2023)", focusing on promoting 5G applications in 15 industries. Now 5G has been widely used in more than 200 smart mines, more than 1,000 smart factories, more than 180 smart power grids, 89 ports, and more than 600 Grade A hospital projects, achieving continuous expansion of application breadth and depth.

At the third CIIE held in 2020, Qualcomm's booth not only included many 5G flagship phones launched by Chinese manufacturers, but also an table tennis robot that attracted many viewers to participate in the interaction. This is the result of the three-party cooperation between Qualcomm, Shanghai Sports Academy , and Shanghai Pangbote Technology. Through the application of 5G, AI and other technologies, table tennis robots can smoothly realize dynamic capture and analysis operations of human bodies, and perform prediction operations and rapid responses on each trajectory. It can be used in application scenarios such as daily training and introductory learning. During the 4th CIIE, Qualcomm also showed off products such as luxury smart flagship SUVs, smart scooters, and 5G applications in the fields of industry and medical care. All of these are also the result of cooperation between Qualcomm and Chinese partners continuously increasing investment and accelerating the expansion of 5G to many vertical industries.

Qualcomm China Chairman Meng Pu once wrote an article on the official platform of the CIIE that the five years of holding the CIIE are also the five years of Qualcomm's increase in investment in China. For example, in the past five years, the number of new investment companies in Qualcomm Venture Capital in China has increased by 70%, and the investment focus is on four major areas: AI+5G, XR+5G, robot/autonomous driving+5G, and Internet of Things+5G. At the same time, Qualcomm has also jointly established joint innovation centers with multiple local governments and local partners, covering 5G, artificial intelligence , Internet of Things, XR and other fields, helping local companies seize the new opportunities brought by 5G to accelerate development.
As a new generation of mobile communication technology, 5G supports a lot of frequency bands, including the Sub-6GHz bands such as n28, n41, and n78, as well as millimeter wave bands with more bandwidth resources. In addition, the deployment of 5G bands in different regions and industries in the world is also different, and there is a huge demand for RF front-end components. In May last year, Qualcomm launched the second phase of Qualcomm-Quanxun RF project in Wuxi High-tech Zone, Jiangsu to further improve production scale and technical capabilities. It is expected that the construction of the facility will be completed and put into use by the end of this year, and trial production will be carried out at the beginning of 2023 and gradually expanded production, so as to better support the development of the 5G industry.

In July 2020, Qualcomm and more than 20 leading Chinese companies jointly launched the "5G Internet of Things Innovation Plan". While promoting the commercialization of the first batch of 5G Internet of Things terminals in the industry, Chinese companies can also accelerate their overseas use of Qualcomm's global 5G solutions. According to a report released by market research firm Counterpoint, in the second quarter of this year, the top five global cellular IoT module shipments were Chinese manufacturers, accounting for more than 64% of the total. These manufacturers are all initiated by the "5G IoT Innovation Program".
