First of all, I want to say is that I am an ordinary woman who works in Shenzhen. This is the first time I have written such a long article. Here I just want to share with my 9 years of working life from graduation to now and young people with similar experiences. , like many fresh graduates, I came to Shenzhen to attend the CET-Expo in my senior year and signed a contract with a foreign-funded enterprise. I felt very grateful at that time. Because we are majoring in engineering, there are few girls. More than 20 classmates came to the same grade and major. Only I signed a Fortune 500 foreign company with another girl. My household registration was transferred to Shenzhen in July of that year, and everything went smoothly. The only thing is that my parents always hoped that I could go to work in the public institution they arranged, but I was determined to go to a foreign company at that time, and although it was a factory, I also recognized it. In the following years, I changed companies almost every year, including Europe, the United States, South Korea... all of them are well-known Fortune 500. The real reasons for changing jobs are mostly simple. For a higher salary, I am also lucky. I have been targeted by the headhunter since the second company. Basically, when I was stable in a company for about one year, the headhunter will call me to ask if I am considering new opportunities. My salary rose from 900 yuan per month during my senior year to 17K per month, from 2001 to 2008. Compared with many of the great people in the world, this number is very ordinary, and in Shenzhen, it can only be considered a well-off society. By the way, the work I was engaged in was already thousands of miles away from my major in university, and was basically completely separated. In order to supplement the work I later worked in, I also studied for the supply chain major of Master of Systems Engineering from 2005 to 2007, and obtained some relevant qualification certificates, including domestic and internationally recognized industry certificates.

Getting married, pregnant and having children, women have a stable place to go to work, which seems to be the daily life of many working women in Shenzhen. In 2002, I bought a small house with a mortgage, and later sold it in 2005 and changed it to a larger one and planned to marry the former BF. Unfortunately, the good times didn't last long, and the marriage and divorced again. . . Off topic, I won't talk about it here. In short, I have always been in a state of being in a relatively troubled state, either working or emotional.

To be honest, women are often in a relatively awkward position in the workplace, especially in industries where they are dominated by men. But my career belongs to Manufacturing. Having a certain amount of work experience and getting into the so-called manager level is really not that much room. Not to mention that you opened land and planted the land and sowed the peaches and were picked by the Japanese suddenly sent by the headquarters. You accidentally stood in the wrong team and were re-organized to a remote corner and cooled down. You also had to be trained to change management skill.Always The roles you played were basically support other people to success, and the other people here were either Japanese or fake foreigners. Especially the offices of foreign companies in China are prosperous. When you look up and find that the world above your head is full of the Japanese, that is, it is time for you to rethink your positioning.

Everyone thinks I am quite chic and I beat up when I am unhappy in my work, mainly because the house is not covered by children and naturally there is no pressure. During the meal, we talked about a male colleague who was once LAY OFF in the company during the economic crisis. He had two children at home, his wife had a low salary and a mortgage. The couple cried in the middle of the night to call the American boss... When everyone talked about others, they sighed and sighed, at least they had a job to support their family. Actually, I have long planned to start a business, but I have not implemented it. I reflect on myself that I am really used to going to work and getting off work every day. For most workers, no matter what the real situation is, at least in a foreign company, it is still a beautiful errand, flexible work system, bright office building, white-collar workers (hehe, most of the word is derogatory now), make a cup of coffee, typing at the computer a few times a day, and saying beautiful English every day...

However, I can tell you the real situation, you know that the so-called flexible work system is to deal with any emergencies outside of 8 hours, get up at three o'clock in the middle of the night to hold a phone meeting, and have a regular meeting with the United States at 7 o'clock a few days a week. If the US summer time is too early, you used to stay with colleagues every Thursday, in order to confirm with EMEA according to the latest MRP COMMITMENT from RUN... Don't think that you can be in Cao's camp and be in a heart. You must be ready to answer QUESTION thrown by the headquarters or supplier at any time. Some questions are unfriendly and picky, but you have to answer them in a professional way. We cannot be subjective or ambiguous, because our line speaks with data. Many times, you have to prepare a lot of data analysis and reports before the meeting, and take into account the problems that may arise in all aspects. But these are actually the right thing. As long as you are serious and have a certain professional knowledge, it is not difficult to have a good presentation skill. The most complicated thing is to people, and I will mention the issue of people in foreign companies later. Often, I start meetings when I arrive at the company in the morning. After three consecutive meetings, it is noon. Then I rush to do data and PPT and make coffee? It is often not until 4 pm that I find that I haven't taken a sip of water yet. Every day when I turn on the computer and see more than 100 unread emails, I feel like I’m going to collapse.

To be honest, I still like my work. Because a lot of my job is to deal with factories, I am from engineering and I can do many things easily. But I hate two things the most,

1, there is no freedom and confidence in work, and everything needs to be REPORT.

2. When you meet a boss who is not SENSE, you often have all kinds of wonderful ideas for you, but all of them are imagination.

At the beginning, you don’t argue with him and let the facts speak, but you should know that things at work are often because the executor is you, so the problem is also you. If you do it right, no one will say anything. If you do it wrong, you can't say childishly, "It was my boss who asked me to do it." Of course, the boss knows that he asked you to do it, but he will not appear at this time. Instead, it is possible that when someone else is QUESTION, he will jump up and say to you: Be careful next time, you must... to...; although this is the CONCERN you have mentioned long ago, only heaven knows, earth knows, you know, he knows. At this time, he did not admit that the world was silent.

Someone mentioned the language problems in foreign companies. Nowadays, many mainlanders speak English no worse than Singapore Malay . I am not a professional English, but I am not bad at English. I passed Level 4 in my freshman year, level 6 in my sophomore year, and participated in the fun in my senior year to take the exam for TOFEL and GRE, with a score of 630, 2100. Nowadays, Americans deal with Chinese people more, and they also know that mainlanders are no worse than Singaporeans. But do you know why the middle and senior executives of foreign companies are dominated by Singapore, Malays and Hong Kong people? I think there are political reasons here.It is not ruled out that some foreign companies have Southeast Asian Gang and Taiwan Gang, but for American companies alone, many Americans are still worried about mainlanders because in their concept, there is always a red communist country. Especially some foreign companies with core technologies are unwilling to let mainland Chinese employees get more exposure to what they believe is "confidential" documents. Especially for procurement, some high-value and sensitive materials will never be put into LOCAL. The word TRUST is not just 5 letters, it contains too many cultural, historical, and ethnic things. It's not discrimination, it's just distrust. For Indians, Hong Kongers, Singaporeans, Americans have always believed that they are on the same front as them, and these people have indeed been completely Westernized.

I think the Americans' Cold War strategy is successful. Just look at how many people are drinking Coca-Cola now. But I won’t talk about politics here. In this season of economic crisis, I saw the company’s layoff strategy, there is a plan for layoffs, how many people, how many people in each department, and how long it takes to complete the plan. These are actually budget data in financial statements, but there will be a series of butterfly effects behind each data. But what I actually see is that mainland employees are "prioritized" laid off. Of course, there are colleagues who have been laid off in the United States, but you know that person is Chinese, and then in turn, Malays, Indians, blacks, whites... This is the reality I see. Maybe during the company interview, he will make various requests to you, such as loyalty. For example, some people above said, "If you change a company a year, there will be a company that wants it." What I can tell you is that working in a foreign company is working, what development platforms and career prospects are completely unknown. When layoffs, many employees who have been in the middle of a long time are considered first, why, because they have high salaries. If the same job company could find cheaper labor, which not only completed the COST DOWN plan and completed the layoff plan, as the boss of the department, he would definitely make such a decision. The boss of the department also works, and the company is not his. He also needs to have a PERFORMENCE in this position so that he can get promoted and get a salary increase. Don’t think that you will not be laid off if you make a lot of contributions. Remember, in foreign companies, everyone is working. If HR reads your resume and says I don’t consider hiring you, I think you change jobs too frequently and not enough. That is its official language, but you are not enough QUALIFY or OVER-QUALIFY.

Some departments recruit people to find someone who works. They don’t want to train you to become LEADER. You become LEADER. The boss will drink the northwest wind. Unless he is also promoted, he is willing to promote you. The probability is relatively small. So, sometimes you are too strong, which is not an advantage, because the job does not require such a strong background. Of course, except for applying for SALES, sales are based on performance. So when you fail the interview, it is not necessarily that you fail, but that you are OVER-QUALIFY. The light is too dazzling. Who dares to attract you to be the boss?

Of course, I don’t rule out that some very powerful bosses do recruit people with Bole’s eyes, but in many manufacturing industries in Shenzhen, remember one thing that foreign companies will not deliberately train mainland employees.This is why you feel that you have worked hard to do a lot of things, but suddenly the headquarters will transfer someone to be your boss and throw you to another place to open up the land. It’s not that God has no eyes or can’t see your contribution. Everyone has seen what you do, but they choose to be blind. Give a not-so-appropriate example. You and a few fellow villagers in your village go to a place in Africa to sell radish . Because Africans love to eat radish made in China, but after investigation and research, your village found that the African tribe in Africa is cheap and can grow the same radish. So you asked the locals to grow radish as Chinese radish. Although you didn't work, when the village chief asked, you wouldn't say that this is the credit of my African brothers. You will "teach" how you "teach" African brothers to grow radish, how to manage, how to coordinate, how to make MONITOR in detail, and return to the village to PRESENT, and then the village chief happily gave you a bonus and gave you a MAKE IT HAPPEN grand prize hanging at your door. By the same token, mainland employees in foreign companies are tribes that grow radishes every day with sun and rainforests. Do they go to PRESENTATION for the village chief? It’s not your turn. It’s okay to plant radishes well. If you still want to learn something other than planting radishes, it may cause panic among some management teams. If you learn everything, people will be unemployed.

Sometimes I think about working. Every day I drive by the science and technology park, I see many young people shuttle through. This science and technology park is where many young people’s dreams begin and are shattered, and youth and blood and tears are not exaggerated at all. I often go to the factory outside the Guanwei and Dongguan . Compared with many people in the factory, my working environment and conditions are much better. Some of them are also undergraduates and master's students, but they have to choose a job in such an employment environment. Of course, it is also very good to be able to build a foundation from the factory. The factories opened by Taiwanese are also known as foreign companies. As a customer, I went to see problems on the production line. I saw girls in very young grades inserting various components on the PCB board with their skillful fingers. To be honest, I felt very uncomfortable. Once, I went to do the annual AUDIT with several Americans at the headquarters. Among them, a very dark and fat American woman saw a test station that tested some game screen control functions. She told an American next to her that this job is good, and you can make money by playing games every day.

I said that these OPERATORs need to be stationed for 6-8 hours a day, and the hourly salary is only 2.5-3 US dollars. Actually, I know that this hourly salary is the labor cost quote given to us by the factory. In fact, what workers really get is much less than this. The black woman continued, then I can ask my parents to do it, they will be fine after retirement anyway. You see, in the eyes of Americans, Chinese people "should" get very low wages to do very hard work. I wonder if many of us have gone through hard college entrance examinations, received higher education, and finally went to the factory to do such a job. Isn’t it a huge waste of labor costs? I know that many Taiwanese factories can directly serve as the post of the department head after they graduate from the mainland factories. This is a position that many mainlanders have to struggle for many years to climb. Poor ability? NO. Many things are only available to you in that position to get access to and hone them, such as LEADERSHIP SKILL, such as management and organizational capabilities. Some people may say that the leader ship does not have to be a leader to cultivate it. You can treat yourself as the leader of this project at any time. I will tell you, continue to carry forward your Ah Q spirit. You can treat yourself as a leader at any time, but no one pays attention to you.

Since childhood, we have been doing things in the same group that this group thinks are right. The teacher is the boss. If everyone handed in homework, it would be wrong if you don’t handed in. You have to reflect on it. When I was in high school, I wanted to choose liberal arts, but our key high school is based on science as our strength. If the children in the liberal arts class are chosen, they are considered to be relatively backward students. Later, everyone took the college entrance exam, and we followed suit. Later, these children born in the 1980s were better than me at that time. They didn’t know what to choose for majors. At least the current children know that it is related to future employment.In short, it’s fine if everyone follows a large department. Later, after graduating from college, everyone was looking for jobs, so you should follow me, otherwise you would be "backward". Others said that foreign companies are good, and they would join foreign companies... When did you calm down and think about what I really want? What do I want to be? What do I want to do to myself? What should I do to the people around me? But have you seen it? Many so-called "success" people (the reason for putting in quotes is that I temporarily use the current society's definition of success is success, but I reserve my opinion) They will not follow a group to do things, they will definitely be independent and a little risky. But that doesn't mean they are risk-loving people. But working is at least safe and relatively risk-free. But the path that too many people walk together proves that you will never stand, because you won’t stand out. Even if there is no economic crisis, who will guarantee that you will stay in a foreign company until you are over 50? In this regard, it is better to have laid-off employees in state-owned enterprises. At least there is a unit "affiliated". Which foreign company is not right now, just say LAY OFF, and all insurances will be stopped immediately. IBM and GE have a retirement system for their employees. If they work for more than a year, they can get pensions when they retire. But looking at GE's current situation, there is no need to say much.

What I wrote is some of my thoughts and insights in my previous work. Now there are many professional consultants who will tell young people who are confused that you should do this and that, and in the end, you will tailor some training for you. For example, in the workplace, you want to be professional, so let me ask you, what is professionalism? I once attended the so-called "professional manager" training course in a well-known training company. The tutor clearly said, "Professionalization means happy to do what you should do." When you are surrounded by a lot of things and have to "train" your boss, explain some problems that you think are wasteful and worthless, and when you keep repeating the cycle in the struggle, frustrated, and depressed state, you will inevitably doubt the value of your work and the value of existence.

The Chinese children of our era are very confused because what they have learned since childhood will be overturned little by little in reality. The better a child is, the more confused he becomes when he grows up. Nowadays, many fresh graduates have difficulty finding employment, which is not surprising, because they have not learned anything "useful" in school. What is useful? If your goal is to work, then you must prepare the skills to work. How can you study and manage in a bachelor's degree? It's a very strange subject positioning. Such a major will definitely not be able to find a corresponding job. If your goal is to work in a foreign company, then study foreign languages well. Many good children eventually became very successful working emperors, and many underachievers went to start businesses. Many people hope to have a role model and follow the example path. This is how Chinese children. But what I want to say is that no one knows themselves better than you, and you may not be right when you follow other people's paths. You will ask many people for advice, but you are the one who makes the final decision. If I really want to give "suggestions", I will give the following references to fresh graduates who are very much looking forward to for foreign companies:

1. should not be too limited to professionalism. Many things are learned in practice. The ability to continue learning is much more important than getting a certificate.
2. If you can take the civil service exam, you can take the exam, and if you can go to state-owned enterprises and institutions, you can go. If you have a background and relationship at home, use it, there is nothing shameful. Having relationships and networks is also your resource, and there is no doubt. Many civil servants now have continuous competition and learning skills. In China, it is safer to follow the Party. State-owned enterprises and institutions may not necessarily have complex interpersonal relationships. If you think foreign companies do not have complex interpersonal relationships, they are very wrong. Do you see the US presidential election? The politics in foreign companies will only become more naked. Chinese people are at least graceful in politics and look polite, but when foreigners engage in politics, you will truly understand the state of "turning their backs on others". Once, an American boss was RE-ORGANIZE in a fierce political struggle. In order to find a charge, the company would find out a sentence from an email N years ago. Sometimes you will find that a colleague suddenly disappears, so don’t ask too much, because it is definitely not a good thing. You think foreign companies are open and upright, and I know the real examples around me are a female colleague in the company who had an ambiguous relationship with her boss (Malaysian) for promotion, but she really succeeded... These plots that I thought I could only see in TV series happened around, not rumors or gossip. Do you think foreign companies are simple and capable? However, in this city where people laugh at the poor but not at prostitutes, the word "capacity" is often given a new meaning.
3. For girls in the workplace, I want to say that don’t deliberately make yourself a strong woman. If possible, try to do the job that suits women, such as design, teachers, and editors... In many industries dominated by male roles, it seems that capable women are often masculine, and it seems that gentle and beautiful women cannot do it. A woman has to play many roles in her life, including her daughter, wife, mother, and yourself. It is really painful if you have to play yourself as a man in the workplace, and there is no need. There is no need to change your personality. I just don’t have that aggressive, and I don’t have that tough demands that others must accept my own opinions. A Korean supplier once told me that among all the customers he is good at, I am the most "gentle" one. Even when his factory responsibilities cause problems, I still speak in my usual tone. I will not be too excited or scold loudly, but he will always arrange my order as soon as possible. Because he felt that I already understood his situation so much, if he didn't support him much, he would feel guilty, haha. Therefore, women often have their own way, and don’t dress themselves up as men.
4. Try to avoid foreign companies with Hong Kong and Singaporeans as their bosses. It is not prejudice, but a lot of factual experience. If you don’t believe it, you can try it yourself, but don’t blame me for not reminding you.

Don’t go to a foreign company with a third-party personnel agency. For example, a person will tell you that your contract is signed with Company A, but you are actually working for a Fortune 500 foreign company. Don’t accept an unknown identity. There are not many opportunities to convert contractor into a formal employee, but there are very few. It’s just the feeling of a mistress. Some mistresses have successfully become regular, but very few of them. Most of the time, you are the one who works the most, but they are not responsible for you.

Some people may say: You have been talking so much, but still haven't answered why you chose to give up in the end. Yes, what I said is all the questions I have been thinking about contradictoryly. What I said before may be a bit exaggerated. In fact, I changed places almost every year or two years after I came out of I*M. Every time I changed jobs, I felt very contradictory. On the one hand, I knew that everything I built here no longer belonged to me, and on the other hand, I knew that even if I continued to stay here, I would have no chance or hope was very slim. Some people may ask, why do you have to be promoted? Isn’t it good to do your business honestly?

You know, the "foreign enterprises" I am talking about here are "foreign enterprises" in China. In the United States, you can do ENGINEER for a lifetime, and you can still reach a relatively high level without having to be a management team and you don't need to care about people, but in China, you don't have to make the management salary and have no room for you.In the United States, a senior ENGINEER pays higher than many middle- and senior MANAGERs. So, the headhunter tells you that there is a new department in China, with many opportunities and challenges. So you try it with great anticipation, working very hard and dedicatedly, but the final result is that a department was established, but the boss has placed other people to be your boss and told you to support her success. Because leaders at this level are all Japanese or fake foreigners, it is normal for the boss to not understand. You must be responsible for training and managing your boss. Your KPI is very good and your boss is very good, and everyone is happy. But there is one thing: the boss is a foreigner, and she/he will eventually leave China. So a new boss came from the headquarters, so the training started again. But unfortunately, everyone was happy this time. This time he sacrificed heroically in a struggle. As his remnant, you have to be treated by the victorious party as a non-direct leader. He will transfer his confidants to your leader. In fact, you have been demoted. Do you have to endure it? Do you want to leave? The headhunter's phone call is here again... The process of changing jobs is very similar to the process of breaking up love and falling in love. After repeated several times, you lose confidence in marriage and plan to be single for life. It is not a problem for men, but you are not suitable for marriage. Fortunately, I have only had two loves and married the man I love, so this is just a metaphor, haha
