1, Daegu subway arson case
3 On February 18, 2003, a subway arson case occurred in Daegu, South Korea, with a total of 192 deaths and 147 injuries. At the beginning, train No. 1079 was thrown into fire by 56-year-old Jin Dahan, but the railway command center was in chaos and did not promptly inform him, causing train No. 1080 to directly enter the platform and was swallowed by flames. In addition to the fire and thick smoke, the train seats are flammable and toxic gases will also be produced, causing more casualties and injuries.
At that time, the driver of train No. 1079, Choi Zhenghuan, stopped the car and Eli passengers escaped, but then left on their own. The driver of train No. 1080 Cui Xianglie was initially inexperienced and asked passengers to wait in their seats. However, as the fire became more and more intense, he pulled out the main control key of the bridge and left all passengers in the train before he opened the train door at all and fled on his own, which also led to most of the victims being train No. 1080 passengers.
Daegu subway arson case, the interior of the carriage was beyond recognition.
2, Hucheng Ocean Park Summer Camp Fire
1 In the early morning of June 30, 1999, a fire at Hucheng County Summer Camp in Gyeonggi Province caused 23 deaths and 5 injuries. The victims included 19 children, aged only 5-7, and all the bodies were burned beyond recognition.
Ocean Park Youth Training Center is designed to train young people's physical fitness, but only the first floor is built with steel bars and cement. The second and third floors are stacked with containers. The ceiling also uses sponges and Baolilong , which are not only flammable, but also emit toxic gases. In addition, there are no automatic sprinklers in the house, fire extinguishers have been scrapped, and even illegal construction of roller coasters and other amusement facilities. Due to the narrow surrounding roads, fire trucks are unable to enter, making it more difficult to rescue them.
The most exaggerated thing is that after the authorities investigated, the homeowner Park spent 14 million won on the ceiling to bribe local officials in exchange for a construction permit. The kindergarten principal, Qian Qingzi and his wife, and three teachers, all five ran out to drink, and did not take good care of the children, let alone evacuating and protecting students in the accident.
Seoul Sanfeng Department Store collapsed in June 1995.
3, Sanfeng Department Store collapse accident
On June 29, 1995, Sanfeng Department Store in Seoul (now Seoul) South Korea disintegrated and collapsed in just 20 seconds, sinking from the original 5 floors into the 4 underground floors, totaling 502 deaths and 937 injuries. This department store is in a prime location and opened grandly in 1990, but it collapsed in less than five years.
The authorities found that Li Yu, chairman of Sanfeng Group, has been constantly renovating and building, changing the originally designed 4-story office building into a 5-story department store, and the top floor ice rink has also been turned into 8 restaurants. In addition, the diameter of the building column has been reduced from 80 cm to 60 cm, and the 16 steel bars have been reduced to 8 steel bars. In other words, the structure of this building is simply difficult to support the subsequent imposed reconstruction and weight.
What is even more regrettable is that on the morning of the accident, many employees reported that there were large cracks and huge strange sounds on the ceiling, but the senior department store executives insisted on opening their business as usual, resulting in an irreversible tragedy.
In the morning commute rush hour, the Seoul Holy Water Bridge suddenly broke into three parts.
4, Seoul Holy Water Bridge breakage accident
11994, Seoul Holy Water Bridge suddenly broke, and a bus and dozens of cars immediately fell more than 20 meters, causing 32 deaths and 17 injuries, becoming the most serious bridge accident in Korean history. The incident occurred at around 7:40 am, and it was the peak commuting moment, resulting in even more casualties.
Holy Water Bridge was completed in 1979. It is 1,160 meters long and 19.5 meters wide. It is built of a steel structure and spans the north and south sides of the Han River. However, the bridge security inspection standards were not perfect at that time, and the contractor East Asia Construction Company lacked the necessary technology. In order to speed up the completion, it cut corners and used inferior steel to construct. In addition, the traffic volume of Seoul has surged in 10 years, with the Shengshui Bridge passing through 105,000 vehicles every day, far exceeding the maximum load load of 32 tons.
5, Darange Hotel Fire case
1 December 25, 1971, Darange Hotel Fire in Seoul (now Seoul) South Korea, causing 164 deaths and 63 injuries. The victims include Taiwanese diplomats, which is also the deadliest hotel fire in the world. This high-end hotel was built in 1969. At that time, the house was only one and a half years old, but the lack of perfect fire protection measures, and the Christmas holiday caused a significant increase in the number of casualties.
At the time of the incident, gas exploded on the cafe on the second floor of the hotel, and the fire quickly rose through the stairs and shafts, causing the entire building to be filled with thick smoke, and tenants in high-rise buildings could not escape. Although the firefighting unit immediately dispatched a large amount of manpower, including 12 helicopters, arrived at the scene and found that there was no apron on the roof and it was impossible to land and rescue. He had to lower the rope ladder and ask the trapped people to climb up by themselves, which caused two people to fall and die. Due to insufficient rescue, some tenants jumped into the window to escape, killing 36 people.
