The most authoritative whisky price index website in the world, "Whiskystats", announced the whisky trading price index for May 2022 yesterday.

index shows that the global whiskey trading price index has suffered its largest decline since March 2020. Among them, Scotland Islei whiskey fell across the board, and Genting whiskey continued to pull back to , but the performance of FAB50 (Fabulous Fifty collection) was very eye-catching.

——Overall performance: One of the worst performance months

May 2022 created the highest number of whiskey transactions this year, with more than 19,000 bottles of whiskey changing hands, with a transaction amount of nearly 10 million euros, and an average price of about 500 euros per bottle.

In May, the TOP500 Whisky Index (Whiskystats) tracked by Whiskystats, a total of 3.8%. The 3.8% drop also created the largest drop since March 2020, and is also one of the three worst performance months on WWI's record.

- Islay Washout

From December 2019 to April 2022, the Islay Island Index rose from 200 points to 400 points, more than doubled. However, in May, the price index of the TOP100 whiskey trading volume in Irey Island fell 6.2%, even surpassing the 6% decline in August and September last year. What's more serious, however, the price index of all Isley whiskey tracked by Whiskystats has fallen, as shown below:

From the chart, we can see that the main driving forces of the strong performance of the Isley price index in the past two years have been Bruichladdich, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Ardbeg and Port Ellen. Prices for favorites Bowmore have been steadily rising until the summer of 2018, but have been in a state of drastically returning to oscillation since then. Buchladi and Kilchoman have been hovering at a low level in the secondary trading market.

—Genting continues to pull back sharply

From the perspective of whiskey production areas, Campbeltown still performed the worst in May, with a drop of 7.5%. Among them, the Springbank index fell by 8.3%, and the prices of many wine models have fallen back to the level of autumn 2021. Genting's callback also affected its sub-brands - Longrow and Hazelburn. For example, the Oloroso Shirley Bucket in Hazeben 2014:

In March 2022, the Oloroso Shirley Bucket in Hazeben 2014 reached its peak in price - 370 euros. The average price in May has fallen back to €207, with some auction prices even as low as €165. In a sense, its price is actually just normalizing again. The same goes for Longrow 11yo Red Pinot Noir, with the lowest transaction price dropping to 168 euros. This price pullback will remain for the foreseeable future.

—FAB50 is facing the current

FAB50 (Fabulous Fifty Collection, price index of 50 bottles in collection level) but it increased by 5%, reaching 192,000 euros. The index has grown by nearly 55% since March 2020. Below, Brownla's 30 Years (2004) perfectly reflects this index performance. Currently, the wine is sold at auctions in the UK and EU both for more than 3,000 euros.

Karuizawa 42 (barrel number 6426) (Karuizawa 42yo Single Cask 6426) has also increased significantly, with the auction price in May approaching 30,000 euros. The average price of the Macallan Royal Marriage 1981 also reached 8,200 euros. The price of this wine has fluctuated back and forth from €6,800 to €8,900 over the past three months, with a huge change.
