A three-year-old girl in Singapore can already sing Chaozhou opera before she learns to speak Chaozhou . Now she is graceful and has performed 45 times and firmly expressed her desire to maintain and carry forward the traditional opera culture.

Chen Weitian, a 13-year-old girl who studied in Singapore Nanyang Girls' High School, like an ordinary girl, loves beauty, Hakka and Korean, and likes to follow the trend. However, as long as you listen to her singing, you will definitely be surprised that this Chaozhou "young man" can sing a standard Chaozhou opera.

When Chen Weitian was a child, she was taken care of by her grandmother. Her grandmother loved to listen to operas and often played them at home. She would also take her to Chinatown to watch performances from time to time. At that time, she was young, although she didn't know much about the story, she knew who was a good person and a bad person based on the actor's tone and makeup.

"I love listening to them singing, and I like their colorful makeup and clothing even more. Every time my grandmother takes me to see it, I am very happy."

Once, she put on her father's long-sleeved clothes and imitated the opera actors and waved their sleeves. After watching it, my parents bought a ticket to take her to the opera performance. As a result, three-year-old Xiao Weitian was not quarrel or make a fuss, and she could sit obediently and watch the two-hour performance, which was very fascinating.

Mother Chen Shufang said: "We saw that she was interested, but she didn't want her to grow up, so she complained that we didn't let her study. I emailed the National Arts Council and asked them to help introduce the teacher to her one-on-one learning."

At that time, Xiao Weitian, three years old at that time, could not speak Chaozhou dialect, and could not recognize words. She sang one by one with the teacher and memorized the songs one by one. Later, at home, she would take the initiative to ask her grandmother to play operas, and she had watched more operas than cartoons.

Xiao Weitian made rapid progress. She performed on stage for the first time at the age of three, and since then she has participated in the performance from time to time. When she was 10 years old, she joined the Nanhua Religious Drama Club and was sent by the club to Shantou for 10 days of special singing class last year. Although she is the youngest member, she has 10 years of experience in Chaozhou opera and has participated in 45 performances.

As a "rare" young man in traditional art, she said: " Chao Opera is about to be lost. We cannot let the traditions of several generations be lost. I feel that I have a responsibility to Chao Opera, I can do more, and I cannot let her be lost."
