China's first celebrity mystery variety show " Star Detective " will be perfectly concluded on June 25. This variety show, created by Mango TV, once occupied the first place in the country's online variety show, with the total number of views exceeding 800 million.
He Jiong After recording the program, he still had to catch his companions to discuss the plot. Sa Beining simply changed the air ticket to find out the clues... Why can a "snake sperm" variety show composed of "30% ups and downs + 40% variety show funny + 30% intelligent reasoning" win the favor of big stars and audiences at the same time? He Chen, who is the chief director, said: "Although we borrowed the model, from the creation of content, including the style setting, which is completely different from that of South Korea, it is completely Chinese."

He Chen
China's first celebrity mystery variety show "Star Detective" director
March 27, after He Chen's first celebrity mystery variety show "Star Detective" was launched on Mango TV, it achieved a good result of over 800 million views (as of June 23), Douban score 8.2, and the best results in ranking first in the national online variety show during the same period. The second season was also successfully prepared. With the end of the first season of Mango TV's "Star Detective", He Chen also returned to the "Honey Bliss". She put on light makeup and went out. She patiently spent half an hour explaining to her daughter why she couldn't take her out and made an appointment with her best friend whom she hadn't seen for a long time. These are things she had no chance to do in the past six months of being busy with the show. As she walked briskly towards the reporter of "People", she had already emerged from the "collapse" brought by the production show.
Dare to be the first, Mango TV combines many characteristics of the Hunan Army of TV. It will not repeat any program that is popular. It has a strong sense of innovation. In He Chen's view, this is a deep sense of glory and a deeply rooted attitude towards doing things.
This is the first time that 31-year-old He Chen took the lead as the soul of a program. The program originated from the JTBC TV station of South Korea's " Crime Scene ". Each program has 6 guests participating, one plays a detective, and five are suspects. Each program solves an incredible murder, and the real murderer is among the suspects. This brain-burning program, which was originally full of serious and suspense, was transformed into a "snake sperm" variety show composed of "30% ups and downs + 40% variety show funny + 30% intelligent reasoning" through the hand of a nerd girl with the mantra of "what the hell", "I'm good at it", and "baby is unhappy", becoming a "snake sperm" variety show composed of "30% ups and downs + 40% variety show funny + 30% intelligent reasoning". When
was recording the first episode of the program, when He Chen noticed that the guests had unknowingly entered the cold atmosphere of the murder scene, she shouted "Stop". This is a clear judgment, "The first consumption of Chinese audiences must be fun."
He Chen is a " Malanshan native TV person" and a "serious TV Hunan Army". The veteran TV guy Xia Qing , who produced the first "Super Girl", taught her the first lesson of making TV. "Don't think that it's so great that you are a college student. Just know three thousand words as a TV guy."
"I was very disappointed when I heard it at that time. I was unhappy, and the baby was unhappy, and it was very uncomfortable." She recalled to the reporter of "People" with a smile. But after ten years of professional experience, she has now deeply understood this sentence, "If you want to be a popular media, you must put your posture right, don't think you are so great and so noble, don't think your audience is a stupid audience."
The following is He Chen's oral statement:
A traditional TV person's first experience of online variety shows
One day after recording "Star Detective", the guest teacher He Jiong suddenly told me that the charm of this show is really terrible. I said why? He said that every time he finished recording another program, he would call everyone together for dinner, but we never discuss programs when we were having dinner, but we just talked about all kinds of interesting things, gossip, and what to buy. But after the recording of this program, we will sit together, spend a long time discussing the plot, and discussing whether there are secrets in you that I have not discovered.
He said that before my life experience, there was only one program like this, which was the tour of "Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land". No matter how many or hundreds of performances we performed, we will also talk about the joys and sorrows of the characters in the play, and we will also talk about the parts of the sigh of fate. He said that this show actually made us want to sit together and chat, and I think this show will definitely succeed. The show had not been broadcast at that time, and it had just been recorded in the third episode. No one could give me the feeling of being recognized in my heart. I was lucky enough to be with "Secret Love in Peach Blossom Land".
Sa Beining is the same. He didn't understand all the clues after recording the program, so he asked the staff to change the air ticket for him and must figure it out before leaving.
Later, a media friend wrote an article on the official account. He said that this program was really attentive. Even buying a bed sheet must conform to the character of the character. For example, she is a girlish person, and the bed sheet must be pink and lace; for example, he is a tall, rich and handsome man, then his bed sheet must be satin and must exude a high-end luster. I have done a lot of details and may not be seen, but if I see them at the moment, I feel like I am a soulmate. When he sent it to me, I burst into tears.
Guests He Jiong, Sa Beining, Wang Ou and other stars all fell in love with this mystery variety show
I belong to the serious Hunan Army of TV. I graduated from the Department of Journalism at Xiangtan University. In 2005, I was a junior in my junior year and entered Hunan Taiwan Entertainment Channel through recruitment. I did some talent shows at that time. Two years later, I became the editor-in-chief of " Entertainment Pioneer ". I grew up with the very traditional Hunan-based comprehensive education in TV.
Before Mango TV came to 2014, the best content on the Internet was relatively small in size and won by creativity and fun. At that time, I thought so easy, and I felt that you had received the most orthodox education in a traditional media, and you had the best technology, and you should be very familiar with it.
But when I really entered this industry to study user habits, I found that it was completely different from TV media. It is actually more difficult than TV. It has to make a big difference with small profits. Small is determined by the market. No one pays for it, and its size is destined to be small. How to stand out among the massive videos? It requires you to be new, strange and special. This thing has caused me a long time of trouble. I used to think that TV is difficult to do, but the Internet is even more difficult to do.
From October 2015, CEO Ding Cheng came. He supports us in making some bold attempts. At that time, online variety shows had begun to form a climate, such as " Talk ". Everyone has good resources and good stars, hoping to make programs that are not only TV-level, but even super TV-level. At that time, I said that we might as well be "Star Detective". This is really something that the Focus Media has done very carefully, and it is only targeted at some of the young people. Moreover, it is special enough that no one classified variety shows into the reasoning field. I followed this program
in 2013, but when we were on TV, we would consider several difficulties and cannot overcome them. One is that it is very difficult to execute. Before "Extreme Challenge", there was actually no so-called drama variety show in China. Using the idea of filming a drama, everyone gave a question mark; the second question mark is actually a late-night program in South Korea, but TV stations must take care of the elderly and children, take care of those who have received higher education and have not received higher education.
The viewing habits of online platforms and TV platforms are very different. TV is a more ritual viewing. At what time, it feels like a date. In online media, it breaks this thing, it is always there, you have to let it take the initiative to watch it from the bottom of your heart. And it is not like the interaction on TV. Press the remote control and then watch it with peace of mind. This can have a lot of auxiliary means to let netizens participate. Just like the original 5 single-view modes now, it is impossible to achieve on TV stations. We used to grab the screens one second, one frame by one, and one frame by one, so why do we still have a time to give you a single-line version of the program that will be broadcast for more than ten minutes. We just make it longer if you are fun, and make it shorter if you are not fun.
We must be talking on TV stations that we are a family, especially as the audience of TV media is becoming increasingly younger and older, all we have to take care of is children and the elderly. When doing it on the online platform, I don’t have to consider these. We will apply the most fun things on the Internet to the show, which is something I feel very happy about. I don’t have to consider how I speak, how I complain, or do you understand the popular words on Station A and B. For example, if the boat is overturned, I can put it on yesterday. To give a very small example, we called the detective agency Hehehe Detective Agency in the show, which actually has a bit of a spoof. Then our boss said, "What does hehehehe mean?" I said it's really a bit embarrassing to explain it." There is a little so-called dirty joke behind it, which is definitely not possible on TV, but it is OK on the Internet platform.
After finishing this program, I sometimes joke that I am now the one who understands the Internet best among Hunan Radio and Television, and the one who understands the Internet best among the Internet. It is true that you have different ways of thinking in different ecosystems, and you begin to force yourself to learn new interactions and new technical means on the Internet. Of course, TV media will always be mainstream, but you may be one step ahead of others, or you may have the opportunity to learn earlier than others. If one day videos become mainstream, you will be lucky to be the first to be truly ahead.
TV Hunan Army's glory
Dare to be the world first is the
thing in the bones of the Hunan Army. The younger generation of Hunan Army of Mango TV put this spirit to the greatest extent. We hope that everything we do is challenging, and when we make new attempts, our psychological burden will be smaller and we can be lighter. "Star Detective" is very niche and must be a very risky project on TV, but on Mango TV, we all think that such risky things are worth trying.
Traditional TV people are very similar to craftsmen. They do their craftsmanship well in a small circle, and are responsible for content creation, from shooting, editing to the end. In online media, you cannot just do the one you are best at. You have to absorb other forms of content. We use "Star Detective" as a product to operate it, and will imagine what its concept is and how to interact and connect with users. We need to embrace the latest trends and technologies in the new society. For example, we went to a game company to study in the early stage. Are there common features in watching the driving force of playing games and watching programs? Finally, we use the idea of card game to package this program. In the early stage, you can draw character cards like players and choose your identity to enter the game. We have also tried to make the VR version to allow more users to enter the crime scene in an immersive way.
The most difficult part of this program is the script. It is actually a new type, which leads to few people specializing in the industry. For example, there are now screenwriters who specialize in suspense and reasoning, but it is completely different. The mode of film and television dramas can be laid out through layers of preparation, such as a gust of wind blowing, lights dimming, and background music, which can create this sense of suspense. But like our show, it's a bit like a design trap, allowing players to jump to different traps.
We have to have a meeting together, take out the main line of the story, and then everyone writes it separately, ask each other during the writing process, and then continue to do offensive and defensive exercises. This creative model completely subverts the habits and thinking patterns of previous film and television drama writers. We found a screenwriter team that wrote criminal investigation dramas in the early stage, but it was not suitable. After that, we found a lot of reasoning enthusiasts, including editor-in-chief of the mystery magazine, high-energy netizens, netizens from forums and post bars, and the TV station's script coordination, which mixed into a somewhat bizarre team. For example, we have a netizen who is a junior student in China News Agency. After the first episode was broadcast, he wrote a very long comment online to find our bugs. He also made a mission circuit diagram, a relationship diagram, and a murder motive, and then posted it on Weibo.I said this kid was good, and I called him that night and said, "Hello, I am the director of "Star Detective". My name is He Chen. Is he true? I said of course it is true. I said I want to invite you to join, are you willing? Then he asked for leave the next day and arrived on the third day."
Everyone is extremely passionate about reasoning, and one person often opens for several hours. We went to work from about 11 to 12 noon, and the two screenwriters took turns to meet with the director team. After giving their opinions, they would change it, and then they would hold a meeting after the correction. For example, when the meeting is held until 4 pm, you can receive a modified version at 4 or 5 pm. This is a intensive state to do this. In a short period of time, everyone can only work at full capacity, and they are completely in a high pressure state to force themselves to produce content. The children in the group stay up late with us and stay up very fiercely. For the longest time, we stayed in a small house for more than 40 hours. Everyone was already in a trance, and the sounds of listening to people's words were far away.

We bought the Korean TV copyright, but we have hardly used anything in the Korean version. It is equivalent to solving riddles. This riddle must be a new puzzle to be interesting. If Baidu comes out, Baidu will be gone, and everyone will have no driving force to see this thing. We often criticize the model we buy. Can't you create original ones? Why are you always copying South Korea? Netizens love deeply and blame him very much. He will say, you must let us see your own things. So although we borrowed the model, the creation of content, including the style setting, is completely different from that of South Korea, and it is completely Chinese.
TV Hunan Army is the characteristic of being the first. When we write plans, we always like to write "China's first" and "the most important thing in history". This kind of thing is subtle. We will not repeat one by one. You will think that repeating others is a very low thing. We have a strong sense of innovation and think this is a sense of glory as a TV Hunan Army.
In 2010, I left Hunan Radio and Television and went out to explore the world with my friends. At that time, I was the editor-in-chief of entertainment news for the fourth year. Every day, I faced someone fighting with whom, and he was with her again, and later they were no longer together. This kind of life is so boring. I was very excited before, but one day I thought what did this have to do with me? What's the point of doing these things every day? I began to reflect on life. In fact, my entanglement comes from when there is no newness.
From 2014, I decided to return to Hunan Radio and Television and join Mango TV. We are a bit like people who grew up in this soil, and I really can't adapt to going out. Because Hunan is a place where content is king, there is no administrative level or age difference in our world. We will admire whoever we think is better. All service teams are content-centered.
Like us doing programs on other satellite TV stations, we are less understood. For example, we often hold meetings in a venue until three or four o'clock in the morning. If the driver picks up our driver, he will be very angry and say, are you sick? Are you trying to cheat me on purpose? But in Hunan, our production teacher doesn’t have to tell him that he will prepare delicious food for you in advance and ask you very considerately, can you still stand it? What do you want to eat at this time? Do you want to drink something to refresh yourself or have some fried rice? Do you want to have barbecue? The same is true for our technical teachers. In the soil of Hunan, the director is the only core. If I say that this part is not done well, I ask the lighting teacher, audio teacher, and stage teacher to cooperate with me 20, 50, and 100 times. As long as I am willing, it is OK. But this is not the case outside, you have to ask others for help outside. If you walk 3 times, I won’t leave.
I think if I really want to go back to the content itself, I will definitely go back to Hunan. I actually got back from a salary cut, but I think this environment is the most suitable for me. It gives people who do content creation the greatest space and the best sense of security.
"Star Detective" award ceremony
With the end of the first season of Mango TV "Star Detective"
Season 2 will quickly enter the production stage
I am a low-level
The entire season of "Star Detective" has only once NG. It was during the first recording, and a person died in the first 10 minutes. Everyone was talking in a very sad mood. It was so intriguing. After about 10 minutes of recording, I called to stop. I told them that getting into the show is one thing, you still have to know what the audience wants to see. If you are so sad, it is " Today's Word ", not "Star Detective".
The original Korean program is very serious, with dark tones, and it feels like a suspense movie. It hopes that the guests rarely get out of the show and do not use particularly funny sound effects, presenting a brain-burning process. But we also conducted a survey in the early stage, and many people told me that I couldn’t read it, couldn’t understand it, and it was boring. Because not everyone is particularly willing to use their brains. Is the boss's investment really only for a few people to see? We also have KPI assessments, and we also need to explain to advertisers.
I was very depressed at the time. Later I watched a movie called "Detective Chinatown", which gave me a good idea. It used a funny packaging, but the core is suspense reasoning. It would be OK for people who like to watch reasoning and suspense to follow that part. People who don’t like to think about it are actually consuming the variety show part.
"Detective Chinatown" has its own unique thing in China's suspense and mystery movies. It uses a good pen power to make a 5-to-5. Basically, 50% of the parts are funny. You will see all kinds of funny, funny, and comedy things in . I think this thing is great, so I want to make a variety show version of "Detective Chinatown".
So, all our content is for this direction. Including the choice of artists, why should we choose a girl like Guigui who is very nervous and has some brainstorms, and why there are some young and handsome guys? South Korea does not encourage artists to dance too many shows, but I would recommend artists to do some effects when appropriate. For example, when Wang Ou plays an 18-year-old girl, you can jump out and say, "How come you look like an 18-year-old girl?" Because she is in her thirties, this contrast in personality and age will bring about comedy effects.
I don’t want it to be a good niche work, I hope it is something with a good reputation and everyone likes to watch. I hope to use variety shows to package it, because the number one consumption of Chinese audiences must be fun.
I am actually very nonsensical. I hate everything that is very regular. I like that everything is a bit weird. If our colleagues report that thing to me, I would say "what the hell", which proves that I like it very much, and I would like the "what the hell" style. For example, in our 11th issue of "There is a ghost in the coach's house", we wrote that talisman, and I laughed to death what they wrote on that talisman, "Cup A turns into a D cup", "Sixth concubine becomes a grand concubine", this kind of thing is so interesting.
is in the position of the general director, and I have a certain say. Just like when we met the original director in Korea, he is a very serious person and doesn’t laugh. His personality is verified in his program, and my personality will also be verified in my program.
How to determine whether my interest is the interest that the public likes? There is no way for all literary and artistic works to predict success or failure in the early stage, but my mentality is young. I will always be on the homepage of website A and website B, and I will always learn about new things. Including what I like to watch, the public likes it. I think my aesthetic taste is more secular. I like to watch brainless Korean dramas, I like to watch novels on the Internet, the domineering president falls in love with me, I like to watch comics and Japanese dramas with pure girlish hearts, such as "9 to 5: The handsome monk falls in love with me". I also like to watch charlatans in Thailand. I am not a person with a snowy life, I am a man of a silly. I have never been shaken. I am not a person who pursues style from beginning to end.
