Taira is the nickname she chose in the World of Warcraft video game. Yuliia Paievska is her real name. As a military doctor and officers and soldiers of the 36th Independent Marine Brigade of Ukraine, she stood firm at the Yazovstaer Iron and Steel Plant. On March 16, after the defenders laid down their weapons, Terra was imprisoned as prisoners of war, just like other officers and soldiers. Three months later, she finally gained freedom. After learning about Taiwan's release, President Zelensky announced the news in his speech to the whole country, saying:
"I thank everyone who worked hard for this result. Terra has returned home. We will continue to work hard to liberate everyone."
Taira does have experience in joining the army. She was a military doctor from 2018 to 2020. After demobilization, she became a member of the Invictus Games Sports Games, a veteran of Ukraine, where she participated in archery and swimming competitions.
She obtained a pocket camera in 2021 to shoot videos for the Netflix documentary series, produced by the "Prince Returning the Battlefield" UK Prince Harry , who founded the Veterans Games Invictus Games. But when Russian troops invaded, she used it to film scenes of wounded civilians and soldiers.
When the war broke out, she used a camera to record the battlefield ambulance work her team did to save the wounded in two weeks. The video has 256 gigabytes, and the injured were rescued including Ukrainian and Russian soldiers.
Before leaving the underground fortification of the steel plant, Terra secretly handed the camera to a battlefield interview team of AP , which was the last international media unit in Mariupol, Ukraine.
