As South Korea debate continues on whether BTS should serve in the military, the South Korean government still has no conclusions, so the South Korean government is considering giving BTS military service issues to the public decision.
The South Korean government stipulates that men aged 18 to 28 must choose a time to serve two years of military service unless they are disabled.
According to Yonhap News Agency on September 14, South Korea's Minister of Defense Lee Jong-seok said that BTS should faithfully perform their duties, which is that the position of the Ministry of Defense will not change. In addition, Minister Li said that he would not give special military service to BTS.
Currently, the proposed amendment to the South Korean Military Service Law has attracted much attention because the current Military Service Law only exempts special talents in the arts and sports fields, and popular musicians like BTS are not included in the Military Service Law. Minister Li also said that he would pay attention to the discussion on the military service law.
BTS is now conducting SOLO activities, and no one has served in the military service. Now BTS has swept the main list of Billboard in the United States and has a great influence internationally.
However, the oldest member, Jung Ho-seok (J-Hope), was 28 years old two years ago. The law at that time also made some changes in time, allowing the time of military service to be postponed to the age of 30. But Jung Ho-seok is now 30 years old, that is, he must enlist in the army by 12 months this year.
Service in the military has always been a major problem in the Korean entertainment industry. Many idol groups have to interrupt group activities due to military service and go all the way down.
Although public opinion previously generally disapproved of BTS’ skipping military service, a survey this year found that 60% of South Korea now support them not having to serve in the military. Therefore, South Korean government polls may allow BTS to not serve in the military.
