Talking about his experience when joining the army, he said that because of the inconsistent opinions of his parents, he almost failed to become a soldier. "My parents are honest farmers. In the early years, it was quite profitable to drive tractors in our hometown to transport. My father thought that if I was a soldier for a few years and then went home, it would be better to buy a tractor with him to run transportation. However, my mother supported me very much in joining the army. She hoped that I could go to the army to train and have a long experience. In this way, with a yearning for the life of the army, I resolutely chose to join the army."

Gao Yuhua: When I was studying in school, the theoretical classes were arranged very tightly, so I used my lunch break to hold the books to the workshop, identify the parts one by one against the mechanical equipment, look at their structure, remember the working principles, and memorize technical parameters. In this way, after nearly a year of study, I was rated as an outstanding student. Seeing that I was studying hard and making rapid progress, the leader of the unit asked me to stay in the team as an assistant coach. This is the first time in the history of a technical school that a student stays on campus to teach.

Gao Yuhua likes schools, but yearns for the hot military camp more. So he politely declined the opportunity to stay in school and insisted on returning to the army to work as an engineering soldier. During that time, he took the wrench and screwdriver every day, and dealed with mechanical equipment, often with sweat and oil on both hands. Not long after, Gao Yuhua became proficient in the maintenance and operation of large-scale mechanical equipment, and became a well-known "soldier expert" in the army.
Gao Yuhua: As long as I receive a repair call, I will immediately arrive at the scene with my toolbox. As soon as we met, we said, "Dr. Gao is here." The reason I call me this is because I can operate and drive and repair all the mechanical vehicles in our unit, just like a "mechanical doctor". Now no matter which company I go to, as long as there is a problem with the electrical equipment, I can repair it.

Becoming an officer was once a dream pursued by Gao Yuhua. However, a person's growth path has never been smooth. Despite his moral integrity and talent, his troops actively recommended him, Gao Yuhua missed the chance to get and three times.
Gao Yuhua: The first time was because of academic qualifications, the second time was because of quota issues, and the third physical examination was passed in all aspects, but he encountered a sudden adjustment of the policy. The policy stipulates that if you are promoted, you must go through military academy training and the age is not over 25 years old, but I was already 28 years old that year. When I heard this news, I felt very uncomfortable. When I lay on the bed, my tears couldn't stop flowing, and my pillow was wet.
At the beginning, I felt disappointed and reflected on it, thinking that I was not outstanding enough in what aspects? After a long time, I slowly figured it out and let it go. I think the value of one's own existence cannot be measured by whether one is a soldier or an officer. What is more important is to look at the size of the contribution to the army.

With deep feelings for the army, Gao Yuhua quickly adjusted his goals, continued to move forward, and embarked on a path of professional development of his own. Comrades who are familiar with him all say that Gao Yuhua's routine work and rest are exercise in the morning, working during the day, and studying at night. Not only is he skilled, but he is also not vague in military physical training , which is admirable. Hearing these comments, Gao Yuhua told reporters that in his opinion, soldiers should be like this. No matter how skilled professional skills are and if they are not well-trained in physical fitness, they will be empty talk when fighting.
Gao Yuhua: Opportunities will always be left to those who are prepared. In order to practice physical fitness, I insist on exercising every day, such as running 5 kilometers, 365 days a year without any resistance to wind and rain. I think that as a soldier, you must first be strong in politics and thought, have excellent military profession, and do all aspects of work in advance, so as to set a good example for young soldiers.
I remember that in 2012, I was already 40 years old when I participated in the military competition, and few other officers and soldiers were over 30 years old. During the two-month training period, I insisted on getting up at four or five o'clock every morning to memorize military theories and conducting professional training, and often stayed up until 1 a.m. After seeing this, the leader said to me, "Go to rest quickly, you will be destined to die!" After hard work, I finally got my wish and won the first place.

Under Gao Yuhua's leadership, his troops formed the "Gao Yuhua effect", and many officers and soldiers took him as an example. In 2012, after research by the Party Committee of the Army, it was decided to name the name of the diesel engine professional classroom "Gao Yuhua Training Room". Gao Yuhua led many senior non-commissioned officers to study and solve professional problems, compile new equipment operation specifications, incubate more than 20 special equipment, and summarize more than 10 troubleshooting methods. The 400,000-word study notes written by Gao Yuhua have also become an encyclopedia to solve the "difficult and complicated problems" of mechanical equipment.
Reporter: What do you think of naming the studio after you?
Gao Yuhua: I was really excited at that time, which was also an inspiration for me. Every day I will organize the studio neatly and wipe the desktop and equipment cleanly. Every day, carefully write lesson plans, formulate training plans, prepare various training equipment, and complete teaching. Usually, I would put common tools such as electric pens and drivers in my pocket. The purpose is to facilitate troubleshooting and repair nearby. I would also put pens and papers in my pockets. I would write them down as soon as possible when I encounter problems. This has become my habit for many years. The companies I have worked in often have comrades calling me: "Second Leader Gao, when will you come back? Second Leader Gao, stay with us, don't leave!" These words made me feel very pleased, which means that everyone likes me and that they can still play a role.

Over the years, Gao Yuhua, who was respected and trusted by his comrades, has become famous. Several local companies have also repeatedly extended olive branches to him, wanting to hire him at a high salary. But Gao Yuhua was always reluctant to leave this military uniform.
Gao Yuhua: In the early 1990s, a local boss who contracted a major project promised me that as long as I left the army and worked with him, I could pay me a salary of 7,000 or 8,000 yuan a month, and at that time, the monthly salary of workers was only a few hundred yuan.Faced with the huge temptation, I still refused. Because I have too deep feelings for the troops, I want to continue to stay in the troops to develop.
In 2018, I could have retired, and a friend called me to suggest that I go back to the place to open a repair shop with him, and I could earn nearly one million a year. But later I chose to stay in the team and wanted to continue to contribute to the construction of the troops.

Faced with achievements and honors, Gao Yuhua said emotionally that he was able to grow from an ordinary soldier to a "soldier expert" and that he would like to thank the organization for his training and his family for his support. For more than 30 years, Gao Yuhua has devoted all his selfless efforts to work and devote himself to his family.
Gao Yuhua: When my old father suffered from esophageal cancer, I only visited the hospital twice. When he was critically ill, I happened to be carrying out an exercise mission. On the fourth day of the mission, I received a call from home saying that my father was almost out of reach and asked me to go back and meet for the last time as soon as possible. On the third day after I rushed back, my father died of illness. Later, my mother was diagnosed with the same disease. During her chemotherapy in Zhengzhou, I didn’t have time to take care of her. Before my mother got sick, she would encourage me every time she called me, "You do your best in the army, don't miss home, I'm in good health, don't worry about it."
Reporter: Is this support from my mother also a motivation for you to stick to the army?
Gao Yuhua: It is true that the duty of a soldier is to defend his country. For example, I achieved success and achieved honors in the army, which is what makes my parents happiest. To make parents happy and make them proud of their sons is also a kind of filial piety.

Due to work needs, after 30 years of service in the army, Gao Yuhua postponed his service twice and chose to continue to stick to the mountains and be a screw in the career of strengthening the army. Gao Yuhua told reporters that this year he will apply for an extension of service to the organization for the third time. Gao Yuhua: When I had been in service for 30 years, I applied to stay in the team myself. The leader also wanted me to stay. After reporting to the superior authority, I agreed to stay in the team, so I became the first senior non-commissioned officer to serve overtime. After the reform and adjustment of the troops, the unit leader asked me, "Lao Gao, you won't leave, right?" I said, "As long as I don't drive me, I will never leave!" I think the older the military, the heavier the responsibility. In the next step, I will continue to do my job well as always, truly play the role of a senior non-commissioned officer, do a good job in passing on and helping, impart my professional skills to more comrades, and jointly contribute to the construction of the army.
