"When I was in junior high school, the National Science Conference was held in 1978, and we ushered in the spring of science. Xu Chi's reportage "Goldbach Conjecture" and Marshal Ye Jianying's 'science has obstacles, and hard work can pass the test' both inspired me as a middle school student at that time. We should set lofty ambitions when we were young, which gives us more motivation to learn. We should study and study and choose hard bones to challenge in the future. This is very beneficial to everyone's ability to develop self-learning, independent thinking, and action practice in the future." Gao Song's words attracted a lot of applause from students.

Recently, Gao Song, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Sun Yat-sen University, gave a vivid chemistry class to students from Fengqing County No. 1 Middle School in Lincang City, Yunnan Province. With the theme of "Molecular Science - Chemistry in the Inter-fusion of Disciplines", Takamatsu introduced the history, essence, territory, frontier, and relationship with life of molecular science, as well as his main research direction "Molecular Magnet".
"Why can Madame Curie win the Nobel Prize in Physics and Chemistry Prize respectively? Why is the Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Physics who apply inventions to life sciences? Why can a famous neurobiologist be a part-time professor at the School of Chemistry?..."
Gao Song said that chemistry is called a "central science". In the future, conquering diseases, solving energy problems, improving environmental problems, serving national security, developing new materials, etc. all require the participation of chemistry. Chemistry, as a science, is still in its young age and there are still many problems that have not been solved. If there is a breakthrough, it will bring good changes to people's lives.
After listening to the lecture, Yang Xuefeng, a sophomore student at the school, said that it is so interesting to know nature and yourself from the perspective of molecular science. This unique perspective has never been known before. In the future, we will pay more attention to the integration of disciplines.
Second-year high school chemistry teacher Yang Hui said: "I will use a more macro perspective to inspire students to love science and cultivate more talents who will devote themselves to basic disciplines and contribute to national development in the future."
Fengqing County, Yunnan is one of the important sources of the Ancient Tea-Horse Road and is the "Hometown of the Red Dian in the World". In 2013, CUHK began to target poverty alleviation in Fengqing County, and transfusions were carried out for education, medical care, industry, etc. here. Through the construction of basic education facilities, teachers and students' teaching support, the development of special education, the establishment of scholarship and teaching fund projects, etc., we have contributed significant strength to Fengqing County's comprehensive improvement of the level of basic education. In April 2019, Fengqing County officially withdrew from the list of poor counties, and CUHK joined hands with Fengqing to enter a new stage of rural revitalization.
As of now, a total of 8 batches of 28 volunteers have been teaching at Lushi Middle School in Fengqing County. After the lecture, Sun Yat-sen University also announced on the spot that in August 2022, the CUHK will add Fengqing No. 1 Middle School teaching points, and the number of students who will go to Fengqing to teach will increase to 8.
