According to media reports, on June 15, Hon Hai Chairman Liu Yangwei revealed at the groundbreaking ceremony of its first electric vehicle battery cell research and development and mass production center that Hon Hai is committed to making a self-made battery module, and it is one of the key development projects for electric vehicles this year.

Liu Yangwei also said that Hon Hai’s first overseas battery cell production base should be in Indonesia. Hon Hai is currently studying cobalt, phosphorus, lithium and other materials, and developing technologies in Taiwan.

In the future, it will continue to cooperate with local manufacturers in Indonesia, Thailand, the United States and other places to build factories and mass production on-site to create battery cells and lithium iron phosphate battery supply chains.

Hon Hai is Foxconn's parent company, which is Apple's core OEM.

Nowadays, smartphone users' replacement cycle has become longer and the market is becoming saturated. The "contractor" Foxconn's life is getting harder and harder, and it is crucial to find new economic growth points.

Last year, Foxconn established joint ventures with domestic and foreign auto companies such as Geely, Fisk, and Stellantis to cooperate on the automobile industry chain.

On May 31 this year, Liu Yangwei said at the shareholders' meeting that in the next three years, Hon Hai will focus on electric vehicles, semiconductors and low-orbit satellite industries, and gradually implement the group's "33" new business layout.

Nowadays, news of self-made battery modules has been reported, indicating that Hon Hai has taken further steps in the manufacturing of electric vehicles, and has begun to build a complete battery, R&D, and vehicle output system.
