Chen Xuesheng, chairman of the Mazu Party Committee, said that after coordination with interested candidates, the party has determined that it will open the election and will not nominate specific candidates. The relevant plans have been reported to the Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Li

According to Taiwan media reports, the Kuomintang’s Mazu County Mayor Liu Zengying’s two terms will expire. Deputy County Mayor Wang Zhongming and Land Affairs Director Cao Eryuan expressed their views on taking over Liu’s run for the election of the county mayor at the end of the year. Chen Xuesheng, chairman of the Mazu Party, said that after coordination with interested candidates, the party has determined that it will open the election and will not nominate specific candidates. The relevant plans have been reported to the Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun .

Wang Zhongming

This is also the third time since the Mazu County Mayor opened up the election in 1993, after the 2009 and 2014 county mayor elections (both were Yang Suisheng and Liu Zengying competed).

Party officials said that Wang Zhongming and Cao Eryuan are both outstanding members of the Kuomintang in Mazu. Since the basic blueness of the Mazu election is far greater than green, they will open up the two to run for election and compete freely. In the end, no matter who is elected, they will still be the Mazu County Mayor of the Kuomintang.

As for the nomination schedule, Chen Xuesheng pointed out that in principle, it will be processed when the Kuomintang’s nominations in counties and cities across Taiwan are coming to an end. Party officials bluntly stated that Mazu's election situation and voter support structure are very different from other counties and cities in Taiwan. If the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China passes the opening early, it may be misquoted to other competition counties and cities within the party, and it should not be dealt with too early.

In 2014, the Kuomintang also passed the " Penghu County and Mazu nomination list" for the last wave of county and city mayors nominations of that year. It was decided not to nominate, but approved the current county magistrate Yang Suisheng and former county government health director Liu Zengying to compete with each other, and Liu also won the election that year and was successfully re-elected in 2018.

In addition, the nomination for the Kuomintang Penghu County Mayor was also involved in the civil war . Penghu County Deputy Speaker Chen Shuangquan strongly challenged the county magistrate Lai Fengwei who was striving for re-election. Local people familiar with the Penghu County elections revealed that a coordinated poll will be launched in the near future, and the target of the comparison poll is also determined to be Chen Huiling, a member of the Penghu County Councilor of the Democratic Progressive Party. The relevant polling work has been approved by the Kuomintang Central Committee.

As for Mayor Ma Gong, Ye Zhulin, who has quit the party and left the Kuomintang, the Kuomintang party affairs personnel evaluated that Ye Zhulin had a strong will in the election at the end of the year and should have no room for integration, so he would not be included in the party's coordination and integration targets.

The local person said that in fact, there have been two polls in the Blue Camp in Penghu County. In the latest poll, Chen Shuangquan beat Lai Fengwei about 9.3%, and 13% beat Chen Huiling.

The person said that Lai Fengwei has a certain level of political qualifications, but he has served as the county magistrate of Penghu three times. In addition, when he returned to the election in 2018, he publicly stated that he would not run for re-election, which is a flaw in striving for re-election. Although Chen Shuangquan has been at the grassroots level for a long time, he is relatively familiar with local relations and has the strength to integrate Ye Zhulin, which is a relative advantage.
