In clinical practice, glucosamine (also known as glucosamine ) has been widely used to relieve pain caused by osteoarthritis.

html On May 14, a prospective study published in the British Journal of Medical Sciences covered more than 466,000 people in the British biological sample database and followed for 7 years showed that glucosamine also has the effect of preventing cardiovascular disease, especially the effect of preventing coronary heart disease is relatively obvious.

researchers pointed out that animal experiments suggest that the cardiovascular protection effect of glucosamine may be related to its anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, this supplement may be similar to a low-carb diet, which reduces glycolysis of and promotes amino acid catabolism.

The study included 166,039 people without cardiovascular disease at baseline, of which 19.3% reported glucosamine supplementation. During the median follow-up period, the incidence of cardiovascular events, cardiovascular death, coronary heart disease and stroke were 2.19%, 0.66%, 1.23%, and 0.7%, respectively.

After adjusting for age, gender, body mass index, race, lifestyle factors, diet, medication and other supplements, the overall risk of cardiovascular events, cardiovascular death, coronary heart disease, and stroke was reduced by 15%, 22%, 18%, and 9%, respectively.

has a 16% and a 30% risk of non-fatal coronary heart disease, respectively. The risk of non-fatal stroke also tends to decrease, but the risk of fatal stroke has not been reduced.

Among current smokers, glucosamine has a more prominent preventive effect on coronary heart disease, with a 37% reduction in risk, while those who never smoke only reduce it by 12%.

researchers believe that this may be related to glucosamine exerts an anti-inflammatory effect in smokers.

Some experts believe that this research results are exciting because they are large in scale and are hypothesis verification research. However, it is not recommended to prevent cardiovascular disease by routine supplementation with glucosamine, and more excellent cohort studies or randomized controlled trial are needed to verify it.

Another Australian study shows that the application rate of glucosamine in patients with heart disease is relatively low, which may be because they are concerned about the potential interaction between this supplement and antiplatelet or anticoagulant drugs.

glucosamine is a non-vitamin and non-mineral supplement. It is a prescription drug in most European countries, while it is a commonly used dietary supplement in the United States and Australia. About 20% of adults are supplemented with glucosamine every day. It is currently also an over-the-counter drug in my country.
