On the afternoon of December 13, 2020, three foreign hikers were hiking outdoors on the top of Wutai Mountain. They lost their way due to the cold wind and heavy snow, and asked for rescue. After receiving the report from the Public Security Bureau, the Management Committee of Wutai Mountain Scenic Area immediately activated the emergency mechanism and quickly organized the public security patrol special police, fire rescue brigade, bath pool rescue team, Taihuai Town Health Center and other departments to carry out rescue work. Due to the complex terrain and thick snow, rescuers arrived at the scene at 15:25. After hiking and entering the bottom of the mountain, two trapped people were found, one was frostbite and one had lost their vital signs. The third trapped person was also found on the morning of December 14 with the help of the Blue Sky Rescue Team , which arrived later, but had lost their vital signs. The hikers who suffered frostbite were delivered to Xinzhou People's Hospital on the evening of the 13th and are receiving treatment for frostbite on the face and limbs.
It was learned that the three trapped hikers had an accident after entering the top area on their own. Here, Wutai Mountain Scenic Area reminds the majority of hikers and tourists that the five tops of Wutai Mountain and surrounding areas have deep ravines and complex terrain, especially in winter, the climate is harsh, deep snow, extremely low temperatures, and complex and changeable weather, which are very prone to accidents such as getting lost, losing contact, casualties, etc. Please do not go to outdoor activities without authorization to avoid accidents.
