On the afternoon of September 19th local time, a magnitude 7.7 earthquake occurred in , 1m in western Mexico. At present, the earthquake has killed at least one person, and four states along the Pacific coast of Mexico have also issued tsunami warnings. Coincidentally, the earthquake is on the anniversary of two major earthquakes on Mexico history . Many local people feel unbelievable about this.
At around 12 o'clock that day, the capital Mexico City began an earthquake exercise to commemorate the victims of the two major earthquakes in 1985 and 2017, both of which also occurred on September 19.
Unexpectedly, just 46 minutes later, a real earthquake hit Mexico again.
Residents of Mexico City: "I'm very scared. The fact is that it has been five years since the last earthquake. This is incredible. We know that the earthquake may happen again, but it is such a coincidence that it happened almost at the same time. The earthquake will happen in the future."
Some people said that because the earthquake exercise just took place, they thought it was the exercise again when the earthquake occurred.
According to information released by the National Autonomous University of Mexico, through calculations, the probability of a major earthquake of magnitude 7 or above on the same day within 1985, 2017 and 2022 in Mexico is less than one in 100,000. Local residents lamented that it was a "terrible coincidence" and was like a prank.
Residents of Mexico City: "You can say that this is unheard of because it is not the first time, it is the third time. This is a strange "convention" (the earthquake occurred on September 19). "After the earthquake occurred, the capital Mexico City felt a clear quake. The walls of some houses in Michoacan and nearby areas were cracked. Telephone and network communication in the epicenter area were interrupted for about 30 minutes.
Mexico is located in Pacific Rim seismic zone , and earthquakes occur frequently. On September 19, 1985, an 8.1-magnitude earthquake occurred in the country, and one-third of the buildings in the capital were destroyed, killing about 10,000 people. On September 19, 2017, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake occurred in central Mexico, killing more than 300 people.
