audio and video streaming platform Netflix tells the story of Korean businessman Kang In-jiu (played by Ha Woo-jung) who went to the South American country to develop, and was forced to actively cooperate in the local area to arrest Jin Yaohuan (played by Huang Shimin) a big drug lord from South Korea. In the play, Quan Yaohuan rationalizes crimes such as fraud, drug trafficking and trafficking through the priest's identity; however, his role setting reminds people of the real priest Shin Yuzhu.
In the role setting of "Drug Lord Saints", in an early drug trafficking operation of Incheon , Jeon Yoo-hwan successfully escaped with methamphetamine when the organization was beaten up by the police. He was good at speaking and finally realized that only by bewitching people through religion can he defraud the best interests. So he switched from a creator to a pastor, and finally established a large-scale Korean church in Suriname. Through female believers, he expanded the sales channels of drugs in Europe. He often claimed to believers that Suriname is the ultimate pure land before going to heaven.
The setting of the cult in the play is actually inspired by the idea that it may be derived from the real existence of the Eunhuilu Church pastor Shin Yuzhu (신옥주, transliteration). Shin Yuzhu once claimed to believers that she had to prepare for the arrival of Jesus, hoping to help God build a pure land in case of the great famine that will occur in the future. Therefore, since 2014, he brought more than 400 believers to Fiji, the island country of the South Pacific, to establish a religious kingdom in the local area.
Enhui Road Church's corporate department established a huge business empire in Fiji's capital Suva . It not only used believers to act as free labor to develop agriculture and construction industries, but also signed several construction contracts with the Fijian government and even won the Outstanding Enterprise Award.
Enhuilu Church was founded in 2002. After the church was considered a heresy by the mainstream in 2014, Shin Yuzhu decided to lead the believers to move to Fiji. However, after these believers arrived in Fiji, they were forced to engage in rice cultivation, and the believers' passports were also stolen by Shin Yuzhu.
In August 2018, Korean TV station SBS current affairs program "I Want to Know the Truth" reported the horrifying deeds of Shin Yu-joo church and his group in Fiji in Episode 1135. Former believers also released images to reveal the information. Shin Yu-joo forced believers to participate in the prayer ceremony of the Threshing Farm (타작마당), indicating that as long as believers beat and slapped each other, they could exorcise demons and ward off evil and repay sins, so as to implement ideological education for believers.
However, an old man in his 700 times was beaten by other believers during the ceremony, causing cerebral hemorrhage . In the end, he died of serious injuries. The minor believer was also encouraged by Shen Yuzhu to beat his parents and even grandparents as a confessional act in the soul cleaning ceremony.
In "The Saints of the Drug Lord", one of the female believers, Zheng Quanshi (Li Feng Yan), takes the lead in inciting and instigating other female believers to fight each other, showing his crazy belief in religion, and his actions are similar to Shin Yuzhu's "threshing farm". As for the plot of Quan Yaohuan colluding with the President of Suriname, it echoes with the Eunhui Road Church in real life through economic means to deepen the Fijian society.
