On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of Deng Xiaoping's birth, West China Metropolis Daily interviewed Luan Xiaofeng, Zhao Baochen, Guo Qingbin, Li Yu and others, among whom Guo Qingbin was the chairman of the Student Union of the Department of Biology of Peking University and the commander-in-chief of the National Day parade.

1984’s 35th anniversary celebration was held after a special historical period and under the situation of great achievements in comprehensive reform and modernization construction, and has special significance.

At that time, Luan Xiaofeng, Li Yu, Guo Qingbin and Zhao Baochen were all senior students in the 1981st grade of Peking University. Except for Zhao Baochen who comes from the Department of Philosophy, the other three are from the Department of Biology.

Luan Xiaofeng recalled: "At that time, the Department of Biology of Peking University was invited to participate in the National Day celebration and was all senior students. My classmates and I were very happy to be able to participate in the mass parade for the 35th anniversary of the National Day. We participated in training seriously every time, looking forward to the arrival of the 'National Day'."

"The academic year of the senior year was very tense, but no one complained about being tired. Every time we rehearsal, each squadron gathered at the training ground early. The students gave up their summer vacation and prepared actively." Zhao Baochen said that as the eve of National Day approached, a rehearsal was held in Tongxian, Beijing. At that time, everyone walked past the reviewing stand in marching and waving the bouquet. Perhaps it was because of the repeated marching methods with the review team of the three armies and the characteristics of this team could not be displayed. During the joint training the next day, the command center notified several squadrons of Peking University to correct the steps in a row, and try to be as natural and lively as possible. On September 27, the mass parade participating in the celebration held its last rehearsal in Tiananmen Square in the rain.

Luan Xiaofeng said that the next day, the school leaders conveyed the opinions of the General Command of the National Day Parade, believing that the atmosphere was not warm enough. At that time, Guo Qingbin was the chairman of the Biology Department Student Union and the commander-in-chief of the National Day parade of the Biology Department. "At this time, classmates from other dormitories, Chang Sheng, Li Yu and Mao Xiaohong also came to our dormitory, and everyone thought about it together." Luan Xiaofeng said, everyone was talking about what slogans to write. Some people say "education needs reform", some people say "reform needs to be accelerated"... Everyone thinks that although these slogans are good, they cannot fully express their wishes.

Luan Xiaofeng said that as everyone talked, the focus of the discussion gradually focused on Comrade Xiaoping. At first, some people said long live to write, but it was quickly rejected, saying that it was a personality cult.

Zhao Baochen said that after repeated thinking, everyone decided to write "Hello Comrade Xiaoping".

So everyone took action, and Guo Qingbin went to the department student union office to get green paper for flower making. There was no brush at that time, Changsheng, a good calligraphy, used a cloth head dipped in ink and wrote six large characters on colored paper.

Zhao Baochen said that when several classmates asked whether Changsheng's words were big enough, Mao Xiaohong volunteered to bring his new sheet as a lining.

Several students immediately got busy and ordered the written words on the bed sheet, but found that the length of the bed sheet was not enough, so they could only order four words.

Guo Qingbin, who was already a member of the Communist Party of China at that time, and Zhao Baochen, a probationary party member, were worried that the banner would not be serious, so he suggested removing the word "comrade" and changing "you" to "you".

This proposal has been agreed upon by everyone, and the banner finally became "Hello Xiaoping".

Zhao Baochen said that at that time, the command center required that items not be carried without regard to the parade and that slogans were not allowed to be made privately. All slogans and banners on the field were uniformly produced by the organizing committee. Finally, after repeated research, everyone decided to use a bouquet of colorful flowers as a cover.

Luan Xiaofeng said that he found three mop poles and mosquito net racks as support poles, fixed them in the middle and ends of the banner. After tied them, he carefully wrapped them up, wrapped them with ribbons on the outside and decorated with paper flowers at the top, so that the banner turned into a tall bouquet. After the slogan was made, it was placed behind the door of the 216 dormitory.

After finishing these things, it was already past 2 a.m. After resting for less than two hours, at 4 a.m., everyone gathered at school to go to Dongdan on standby. Luan Xiaofeng: I don't know other dormitories. Luan Xiaofeng: We don’t know this person at all. In 2001, he took the initiative to submit a book to many media outlets "I wrote "Hello Xiaoping" back then", and has frequently accepted exclusive media interviews in recent years. But in recent years, many people have expressed doubts about him.

Luan Xiaofeng: Guo Qingbin, Mao Xiaohong, Chang Sheng, Li Yu, Du Jie, Yu Hongshi and others all went abroad to study after graduation. 80% of the 81 students in the Department of Biology are now developing overseas, and their classmates were already everywhere in the world. I think this "Hello" reflects a sense of intimacy between leaders and people, and it also comes from the hearts of our students. Guo Qingbin: Early in the morning of October 2, the Party Secretary of the General Branch of the Department of Biology of Peking University called me to his office, asked me about the incident, and told me that this was a major political accident. It was only then that I realized the seriousness of this matter. I told him that this matter was my responsibility and that I took the lead. If the superiors pursued it, I would be willing to bear all the responsibility. He told me that he was very disappointed with me. As a member of the Communist Party, president of the student union, and commander-in-chief of the march, he was a student cadre who had been trained for many years. How could he make such a mistake when he was about to graduate? I couldn't answer him because I didn't know why I made this mistake. I never thought about this problem during this incident.
