In Ningbo, there are many museums with strength and appearance, and each one has wonderful stories. They have not only become a unique cultural symbol in Ningbo, but also become a part of the lives of countless citizens.

Zhouyao Insect Museum’s new museum is one of them. Recently, this museum has been flooded with screens on major social media, and the museum has been crowded with visitors, becoming a new "Internet celebrity" check-in place. There are not many domestic insect-themed museums, and it is even rarer to name a person’s surname. What kind of story is behind this?

Design concept

Because of the origin of butterflies, they coexist with butterflies

Against the backdrop of a sea of flowers in the southern part of Yinzhou Park, a silver-white butterfly building is eye-catching.

Zhao Ying, a designer in charge of the architectural design of Zhou Yao Insect Museum, told reporters that the design inspiration of the museum comes from the butterfly tool left by ancestors. The architect extracted the "butterfly triangle" as the design prototype, expressing the initial concept of "breaking the cocoon and rebirth": "I hope to create a public welfare museum that can not only provide high-quality popular science visits, but also integrate with the audience."

Zhou Yao Insect Museum is a natural theme museum named after the entomologist Zhou Yaoxian. It was built on the banks of Dongqian Lake in Ningbo in 1996, and is now relocated to Yinzhou Park, which is known as the "urban green lung" of Ningbo. The museum covers an area of about 4,000 square meters, and its treasures reveal a mysterious and colorful world of insects to visitors. The reporter learned that there are currently more than 1,300 butterflies in China, and the museum has gathered more than 1,000 specimens in it; there are about 100,000 known insects nationwide, and the museum has exhibited more than 4,000.

Recently, Zhou Yao Insect Museum was listed on the list of the first batch of national science popularization education bases, and the building body also won the "Platinum Award" highest honor for the "Pro+Award Pro Award", which is a benchmark award in China's construction and real estate industry.

Implement ideas

Patriotic spirit and scientific innovation spirit

Speaking of Zhou Yao Insect Museum, Zhou Jingshu, former vice chairman of the Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles, is a person that cannot be avoided. He witnessed the completion of the old and new halls.

"The completion of the Zhou Yao Insect Museum was an important cultural project that the Yin County Party Committee and the County Government tried to win at that time. Mr. Zhou Yao himself also supported the construction of such a museum in his hometown." More than 20 years ago, Zhou Jingshu served as deputy director of the county government office and presided over the construction work. He remembered that Zhou Yao donated more than 3,000 insect specimens and more than 1,000 butterfly specimens for this purpose. Among them, the golden-spotted phoenix butterfly is a national treasure and was announced as the first batch of first-class protected animals together with giant pandas. These insect specimens are scientifically classified and displayed according to the biological search table when moving.

Because of the building of the museum, Zhou Jingshu and Zhou Yao had a lot of exchanges. He not only gained a lot of insect knowledge, but also had a deeper understanding of Zhou Yao himself. In Zhou Jingshu's eyes, Mr. Zhou Yao is a scientist with patriotism: during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he was born and died in the rain of bullets, and he also faced the Kuomintang army with righteousness and fought a school protection struggle; he collected specimens in the primeval forest of Xishuangbanna, Yunnan and was bitten by poisonous insects, and was rescued when he encountered patrolling border soldiers. He used his own strength to change the current situation of backward insect research in China, founded and edited the first international academic journal in my country, "Journal of Insect Classification", which built a bridge of communication for insect scientific exchanges between China and the world.

"So, in the initial construction of the museum, we determined the patriotism and scientific innovation spirit as the main line of the insect museum exhibition, and reflected the popularization function of science through the display of specimens and insect knowledge." Zhou Jingshu told reporters that the successful creation of the Zhou Yao Insect Museum was highly praised by the National Museum of Natural Sciences Society, and this museum later became a bonus project for the creation of a national civilized city in Ningbo.

Innovatively and upgrade

has become a "natural highland" for exploring new scientific knowledge

has an international perspective in terms of specimens displayed in the new hall.Among the nearly 4,000 insect specimens on display, there are dozens of "national butterflies" and "famous butterflies" from countries around the world that have been collected, as well as some specimens of strange insects from internationally. They are very large in size, bright in color, and have strong viewability, which can also allow viewers, especially teenagers, to see the world more with more vision.

In addition to the conventional exhibition methods, Zhou Yao Insect Museum has many eye-catching "secret weapons".

On the first floor of the museum, there is a huge screen that can click on insects in various shapes to solve their respective subjects and attributes; there is also the "insect space-time tunnel" with strong visual impact, which simulates a mini jungle world; several touchable "magic screens" virtualize the three-dimensional dynamic insect shape, and there will be a large group of butterflies, insects, etc. flying out during touch; there is an interactive area on the second floor, and an electronic screen is used to show an animation version of the ecological scroll, and a painting table is set up in front of the screen. The experiencer can fill in and beautify the blank insects. After saving and uploading, the insects will appear, living somewhere in the picture environment, waiting for the painter's eyes to "capture".

Observation is the first lesson in natural science. To this end, Zhou Yao Insect Museum introduced innovative scientific and educational methods and adopted live breeding methods to intuitively reflect the living habits of insects. The ecological tank for feeding and raising living insects is the first "magic artifact" that appears in the Ningbo Museum field, and it is also the area with the most concentrated "flow of people" in the exhibition hall. Among them, the leaf cutting ant device, which is 4 meters long, 1.5 meters high and 1 meter wide, can be observed in the entire process of leaf cutting ant cutting leaves and transporting it back to the nest to "plant" fungi.
