I was surprised when I learned that knowledge isn't necessarily correlated to intelligence. I met a lifelong academic who knows damn near everything about her topic .... but just the facts. It's like, she was a walking vitality, could coough up any info about her field, but she couldn't really process it that well, or draw conclusions, or apply it to a different topic. It's hard to explain. She had a nice 2TB SSD drive full of info in her head but she had a substandard CPU. Since then I've met several people like that. All academics, but I'm not sure that has anything to do with it.

I know someone who has worked in an academic career for the rest of her life and she knows almost everything she knows about her field of research…but it is just facts. It's like she's a walking encyclopedia that can cough up any knowledge in her field with a cough, but she can't really deal with it, or draw conclusions, or apply it to different fields. It's hard for me to say. It's like she has a great 2TB SSD in her brain, but has a second-rate CPU. I have known several similar people since then.
