influenza is an acute respiratory infectious disease. Unlike common cold , influenza virus directly invades the human body's respiratory system, causing viral pneumonia , secondary bacterial pneumonia , acute respiratory distress syndrome, shock, diffuse intravascular coagulation and other serious life-threatening complications.
Influenza and its complications have always been seriously underestimated by the whole society. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that globally, the seasonal epidemic of influenza can cause 650,000 deaths every year, which is equivalent to one death from the flu every 48 seconds. Dr. Lance E. Rodewald, senior consultant for the immunization program of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, introduced that in recent years, the overall incidence and mortality of influenza in China have shown a steep upward trend. Data from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention shows that in the first five months of 2019, the number of influenza reported reached 1.77 million, exceeding the total number of influenza reported in the past four years.
At the 2019 seasonal influenza prevention and control strategy academic exchange meeting held on August 17, Feng Luzhao, a researcher at the China Center for Disease Control and Prevention, pointed out that vaccines are the most economical and effective intervention measures for influenza prevention and control. Infants, school students, medical workers, pregnant women, chronic disease patients, and elderly people over 60 years old are all high-risk groups in influenza. The risk of serious diseases and death after illness is high. Vaccination is the most economical and effective intervention measures for influenza prevention and control, and high-risk groups are preferred. . Yang Weizhong, vice president of of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, said, "We call on the whole people to get vaccinated every year to form a herd immunity barrier to reduce the incidence of influenza in the whole society."
Take infants and young children as an example. Professor Qian Suyun of the Department of Critical Care Medicine of Beijing Children's Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University introduced that 40% of children who have serious complications have no underlying disease before the onset. To reduce the incidence of severe influenza and mortality, the key lies in early diagnosis, early treatment, and early prevention, and attach importance to vaccination. Children aged 6 months to 5 years old are the key groups for influenza vaccination.
However, the importance of influenza vaccines has not been fully recognized by the whole society. Data shows that the current total coverage rate of influenza vaccines in China is less than 2%. Feng Luzhao believes that national-level support is of great significance to improving the vaccination rate, and it is necessary to vigorously carry out health education and strengthen understanding of the necessity of influenza vaccination. In addition, it should be encouraged to strengthen investment in public-funded vaccines, promote people-friendly policies, and further build a more convenient and accessible vaccination service system.
At present, the influenza vaccines approved for marketing in my country are the trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine and the quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine respectively. The "Technical Guidelines for the Prevention of Influenza Vaccination in China (2018-2019)" reminds that for people who can receive different types of vaccine products from different manufacturers, they can voluntarily receive any influenza vaccine, and there is no priority recommendation. Residents can go to the community health service center vaccination site and some private hospitals to make appointments and get influenza vaccination in their jurisdiction.
