At present, in order to support the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry, the procurement of battery materials is in a competition. Some industry insiders have been warning that some key materials will have serious shortages. Generally, miners and refiners deal with battery manufacturers rather than automakers, but automakers are starting to establish direct relationships with base metal miners to obtain long-term contracts that ensure supply of batteries in the next few years.
Tesla was one of the first automakers to seek to build such a relationship and recently started making its own batteries.
As we all know, most of these suppliers have relationships with Tesla. Recently, there have been rumors that Vale and Tesla have reached a "secret agreement" on long-term nickel supply. This list confirms this supply relationship.
Vale said to Tesla’s information disclosed today, “Vale noticed the information disclosed by Tesla today and confirmed that it signed a long-term contract with Tesla to supply Tier 1 nickel to the United States from its operations in Canada. The agreement is in line with our strategy to increase exposure to the electric vehicle industry and to leverage our low-carbon footprint and market leadership as the largest producer of finished nickel in North America.” (Proofreading/Sharon)
