According to Cambodia media, the Japanese government decided to provide a loan of US$310 million to Cambodia to support the implementation of the expansion project of the new container terminal of Sihanoukville.
According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Cambodia, on August 6, 2022, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Japanese Foreign Minister Lin Fangzheng will attend the signing ceremony together.
In the notice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the loan will help expand and modernize the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and transform the port into a major deep-sea port in Cambodia and the region.
The Japanese government has provided Cambodia with a number of preferential loans to help expand the capacity of Sihanoukville port , such as: Sihanoukville Port restoration project (2005), Sihanoukville Port emergency expansion project (2009), Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone Construction Project (2012) and Sihanoukville Port Multifunctional Port Development Project (2018), with a total loan amount of US$179.23 million.
and other projects under construction, such as the Sihanoukville Port Container Terminal Project (2021-2025), the Sihanoukville Special Economic Zone CFS Warehouse Construction Project (2020-2023), and the Sihanoukville Navigation System Management Development Project (2021-2023), with a total loan value of US$215 million.
htmlOn August 5, Prime Minister Hun Sen said at an event where he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Royal University of Phnom Penh that the restoration and development project of Sihanoukville Port is the result of good cooperation between Cambodia and Japan.
