Once in the army for five years, he used the police station as his home at around 15:40 on October 8, on the banks of the Jialing River near the Rainbow Bridge in Cangxi County.
A woman fell into the water, and police officers from Cangxi County Public Security Bureau Li Yutian, Ou Hao and others ran towards the river. At 15:47, Li Yutian tried his best to push the girl falling from the river to the shore. The people on the shore held hands and formed a human rope to try to rescue him, and tried to throw the clothes to Li Yutian and pull him to the shore.

The incident occurred at a flood dam. It was the flood discharge period of the Tingzikou water conservancy hub. The water flow was fast and undercurrents were many, with a flow rate of 2,300 cubic meters per second and a water depth of more than 3 meters.

Li Yutian was born in 1989 and is 31 years old. He has been a soldier for five years and returned to his hometown in Cangxi after he was discharged from the army. He was an employee of Guangyuan Wetland Park and was later admitted to Cangxi County Public Security Bureau and became a policeman from the Dongcheng Police Station of Cangxi County Public Security Bureau with police number 035225.
Many of his colleagues mentioned in media interviews that Li Yutian worked diligently, worked overtime often, ate and lived in the institute, and rarely went home. The standby room on the fourth floor is his "home" in the police station, with several upper and lower duty beds placed on the upper and lower floors, and Li Yutian's bed is placed on the lower floor.
