Data from Talay Thai shrimp wholesale market shows that the prices of all sizes in Thailand's South American white prawns fell in the first week of this year, ending a continued upward trend since late September.

In the first week, the farm price of 60 shrimp per kilogram fell by 5 baht to 177.50 baht per kilogram, and the prices of 70 and 80 shrimp fell to 170 baht per kilogram and 157.50 baht per kilogram, respectively. This is the first decline after a steady rise in 10 consecutive weeks. In US dollars, 60 shrimps are priced at US$5.31/kg, 70 shrimps are priced at US$5.09/kg, and 80 shrimps are priced at US$4.71/kg.

Despite a significant drop in price, the price of Thailand's 60 shrimp is still the second highest in the world compared to other major producers, following the Chinese shrimp's $9.60/kg (data is the 50th week of 2021 Chinese shrimp prices). However, the price of 60 shrimp in Thailand has now dropped to close to that of shrimp in Andhra Pradesh, India, and when Andra 60 shrimp was converted into USD in the first week of this year, the price rose to USD 5.11 per kilogram. Ecuador's 50/60 and 60/70 counts and Indonesia's considerable amounts of shrimp remain the lowest in the world.
