After the earthquake, the reporter immediately came to Bailakli, one of the hardest hit areas in Izmir. This is a densely populated area with a large number of residential buildings. The reporter saw that many houses were more or less damaged in the earthquake. One of the houses has completely collapsed. The original seven-story building collapsed to a height of only two or three floors. Due to the serious damage to the walls, the reporter can even see the squeezed and deformed furniture in the house, such as beds, sofas, etc. Some local residents cried bitterly around the collapsed ruins because their families were still in the ruins and their lives were uncertain. A local woman told reporters that many of her relatives, including her grandmother, uncle and aunt, were in the collapsed house and were waiting for the rescue results. In addition, the reporter also saw an eight-story residential building tilted after the earthquake, which made people feel crumbling and at any time there is a risk of collapse. According to the Minister of the Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning, at least four houses collapsed completely during the earthquake. The reporter saw a large number of fire trucks, ambulances, police cars, etc. on the scene, and the relevant rescue work is in full swing.
The reporter finished the interview and after returning to the hotel, he also felt several aftershocks. The strongest time was around 2:00 in the morning, and he obviously felt the ground shaking left and right. It is understood that the magnitude of the largest aftershock in the local area reached 5.1. Due to the constant aftershocks and the fact that many houses have become dilapidated houses, many local people dare not return to their homes, and they choose to take risks in open parks or lawns. Some people have brought food, water, blankets, etc. out, and they don’t know when they will be able to return home. (Central Station reporter Gu Yuting)
