If it weren't for two penalty kicks in stoppage time, the U19 National Youth Team would once again be tied by a Southeast Asian team this morning. From the Thai team to the Vietnam team and then to the Myanmar team, as the Chinese football level stagnates or even regresses, it is time for us to look at the national football team in a different mindset.

This national youth team is of course not easy. Since participating in the Huashan Cup Four-Country Invitational Tournament held in , Shaanxi Weinan in April 2019 to travel to Europe in July this year, the team has not participated in international competitions for more than 3 years. The players have basically no international competition experience, and the foreign coach has not been able to be with the team for a past year due to various reasons. Naturally, the team's strength can be imagined.

But these are not the fundamental reasons why Chinese football continues to perform poorly in front of Southeast Asian teams. One has risen and the other has fallen, the continuous progress of our opponents and our own stagnation or even regression are the fundamental reasons why Chinese football is difficult to easily defeat its former defeated opponents.

Before 2010, Southeast Asian football was still at the bottom of the Asian fish. With the vigorous development of youth training in recent years, teams represented by Thailand and and Vietnam have made great progress now and have gradually entered the second-rate level in Asia.

According to statistics, the last time the Chinese men's football team played against the Thai men's football team was in the 2019 Chinese Cup , when the Chinese national football team lost 1-2. In addition, the last time the Chinese men's football team played against Vietnam was in the 2022 quarterfinals, and lost 1-3. These two losses are a stagnation at the national football team level, and the barely winning of the National Youth Team this morning has made this worry even more amplified. Because it also means that the overall development of Chinese football has already seen a large deviation. With such an echelon, Chinese football may lose more games in the future.

Of course, we are not not working hard either. In the past two months, China's first Youth League has been in full swing, but if we want to test our current efforts, it will be possible to see it many years later. Therefore, in the next few years, it is time for us to look at Chinese football in a different mindset.
