The high-pitched and passionate Peking opera and the lingering and soft Kunqu Opera collide in the same space, and the sparks created make the audience full of imagination. In the spring of 2019, Peking Opera master Li Baochun and Taipei New Opera Troupe held a tour. On April 9 and 10, two major dramas, "The Bright Light" and "The Orphan of Zhao" were brought to Shanghai Meiqi Theater on April 9 and 10, presenting a new ending for the classic drama, mobilizing various elements of one soft and one hard, one south and one north, one new and one ancient, to reflect each other the rich sense of layering of the works.
Whether you know or not, you should be green, fat, red and thin... Li Qingzhao, a poet of the generation, is well-known to her because of her works, and our understanding of her is actually very limited. "The Bright and Bright Photo" focuses on a little-known story of Li Qingzhao. She had two husbands: the first husband, Zhao Mingcheng, , died of illness during war, and the second husband, Zhang Ruzhou, was a fake marriage and was really a fraud, defrauding Li Qingzhao of the bronze national treasure. Li Qingzhao refused to obey and suffered domestic violence. She sued the government office for divorce. However, the process was quite twists and turns, because there were no previous examples, Li Qingzhao could not provide evidence of cheating marriage. In order to win the case, Li Qingzhao changed the case of Zhang Ruzhou being involved in the imperial examination, but the Song Dynasty laws stipulated that a woman must first go to prison for three years if she sued her husband. How determined should I be to make people rather go to jail than to file for divorce? Li Qingzhao is such a brave and amazing woman. "The Bright and Bright Light" uses this unprecedented divorce case to approach the unknown side of the female poet, allowing the audience to realize that the reason why literary works are profound and moving is that they are extraordinary life experiences and tenacious heart.
In "The Bright and Bright Photo", Li Baochun interprets two husbands, Zhao Mingcheng and Zhang Ruzhou, who are very different. The whole play tells the story of the war between the two Song dynasties. Li Qingzhao was deeply immersed in his longing for his late ex-husband Zhao Mingcheng. He saw Zhang Ruzhou in a trance. He thought it was Zhao Mingcheng's rebirth, but he didn't expect it to be a scam. "The Bright and Bright Light" is another masterpiece by Li Baochun after "Confidant" and "The Palace of Changsheng". It combines delicate and melodious Kunqu opera and bright Peking Opera, presenting the collision between Li Qingzhao's memories and reality, and the lingering pull of love and hate.
Li Baochun was born into a family of opera . His grandfather Li Guichun , his father Li Shaochun , and his mother Hou Yulan are all famous opera artists. He was instructed by his grandfather at the age of nine, and entered Beijing Drama School at the age of ten, specializing in civil and military veterans. In 1997, Li Baochun led the establishment of the Taipei New Drama Troupe, which produces more than two series every year. So far, it has released nearly 50 new and old dramas, including "Braining the Gold Brick", " Wild Boar Forest ", "Huarong Road", etc. During the creation process, Li Baochun used the drama tradition as the basis, integrated the new ideas of the times, and gave full play to the theater effect. Through "spoke plays", "taking old as new", "mixed matches in Beijing and Kunqu", they broke through traditional programs and carried out "formatting" processing, injecting new vitality into the old plays and allowing the old plays to gain new vitality.
In 2019, the Taipei New Opera Troupe tour integrated Peking Opera, Kunqu opera, and new Beijing-Kun duets, bringing a new experience of appreciating traditional art. It gathered Qiupai and others, and performed on the same stage in Beijing-Kun Shengdan and Jingchou to perform the new version of the opera legend. In addition to "The Bright and Bright Photo", Li Baochun also played the roles of "The Orphan of Zhao" in "The Orphan of Zhao". The drama, movie, and even foreigners are adapted from the drama "The Orphan of Zhao", which shows its moving tragedy, which is fascinating both ancient and modern times, both in China and abroad. What a powerful belief that made a group of people sacrifice heroically for the orphan? This version of "Orphan of Zhao" further modified the original "slightly disappointing" ending, making "Orphan of Zhao" no longer just a foolish loyal story of two rigid old men taking their lives and their sons' lives to death in a long time, but turned into a choice in a dilemma.
In Li Baochun's view, the so-called "new" means to be packaged with a new creativity, and "old" means to inherit the essence of tradition. Therefore, "new and old dramas" must be packaged with some new ideas while ensuring the classics and essence of tradition. Li Baochun said that Peking Opera is his spiritual home.
