Shipping’s future plans to build a digital and green energy-saving fleet to continue to reduce operating costs.
Taiwan Yang Ming Shipping recently held a regular shareholder meeting. Yang Ming Shipping stated in its 2019 annual business report that the company has always adhered to the concept of advancing with the times in terms of digital development strategy, and continued to pay attention to and use innovative technology to promote management and service upgrades. In the development of digitalization, we must first establish a customer-oriented service strategy and implement centralized management. In view of the booming development of e-commerce in recent years and the provision of convenient and efficient services to customers, Yang Ming Shipping joined the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) in the second quarter of last year, hoping to cooperate with international container shipping companies on this platform to promote Digitize, standardize and use innovative technologies in the container shipping industry; optimize the upstream and downstream operating models of the future shipping industry, make information interaction between related industries more efficient, provide more convenient and consistent services, and achieve innovation and digital transformation in the container shipping industry. In addition, Yang Ming plans to develop a cargo overview information platform to provide integrated services to simplify customers' tracking of freight information and develop online booking and quotation services. It is also considering cooperating with third-party platform companies to provide upstream and downstream logistics services such as financing. , insurance, customs declaration, towing and other comprehensive value-added services.
In terms of technology applications, Yang Ming Shipping began to build Robotic Process Automation (RPA) last year, which will be used in import and export document operations in Taiwan, hoping to reduce repetitive work of personnel, improve document production efficiency and the value of personnel work. In the Internet of Things (IoT) part, Yang Ming Shipping uses the existing equipment of the ship to track and control the refrigerated container at sea to verify its business benefits. It will then cooperate with DCSA progress and suggestions to continue to jointly develop full-process monitoring of refrigerated containers with manufacturers. In terms of ship intelligence, Yang Ming Marine continues to optimize ship network and asset security, conducts voyage planning simulations based on weather navigation, and conducts trial calculations of fuel costs and cross-compares them with actual fuel data, thereby reducing operating costs.
Yang Ming Shipping actively plans to expand its green and energy-saving fleet. Last year, Yang Ming Shipping added two new 14,000TEU container ships "Dingming" and "Shiming" into operation. Currently, the fleet has a total of 20 14,000TEU large container ships. Starting from this year, Yang Ming Shipping will successively receive 10 self-built 2,800TEU and 14 long-term leased 11,500TEU new energy-saving and environmentally friendly ships, and replace the old ones with new ones. Achieve higher energy efficiency and lower emissions with a younger fleet, meet the latest energy conservation and environmental protection standards of the International Maritime Organization for energy efficiency, and continue to reduce operating costs.
According to the International Ship Network, five of Yang Ming Shipping's new 2,800TEU container ships, "Shuoming", "Yangming", "Haoming", "Yuming" and "Cunming" will become the world's first Approved by American Bureau of Shipping Smart INF and Smart Container ships certified by SHM Smart Symbol are equipped with intelligent information architecture technology, which can collect navigation big data and transmit it to the cloud in real time. Including route-specific container loading planning to improve container loading flexibility, and optimization of the hull pitch posture to save fuel consumption, the use of the above technologies will improve operational performance and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
At the same time, Yang Ming Shipping continues to monitor ship energy efficiency for large container ships to observe the energy-saving effect and make timely improvements. Yang Ming Marine also cooperated with WNI Weather Navigation Company to develop the fuel energy efficiency management system , and established a fleet schedule dynamic monitoring and adjustment module to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and waste.
