7. Weekend Theater | Peking Opera "Havoc in Heaven"
The Jade Emperor named Sun Wukong the "Monkey King" and made him in charge of Taoyuan. Wukong came to the Heavenly Palace and learned from the fairy that he was not invited to the peach banquet. In a rage, he broke into the Yaochi and stole wine and fruits; he also entered the Tusita Palace and feasted on golden elixirs. Tiangong gathered its forces and, under the leadership of King Li Tianwang, fought against Sun Wukong, but was defeated by Sun Wukong. Surrounded by cheers from all the monkeys, Sun Wukong sang a triumphant song and returned to the mountain in victory.
Peking Opera "Havoc in Heaven" is a 2018 revival of the Peking Opera Preservation and Inheritance Center of Hunan Province. It has been loved by the audience since its performance. It was selected for the 6th Hunan Art Festival and stars Ren Jinxiang (playing Sun Wukong) and Li Yongshun (playing Li Yongshun). King of Heaven) and Cao Xianzhe (played by Erlang Shen) won the Tian Han Performance Award.
