The Taichung election polls were released. Wu Zijia saw Lu Xiuyan’s data and felt sad for Cai Qichang. According to media reports on the island, in the Taichung mayoral election poll in August, Lu Xiuyan, the current mayor of Taichung and also the mayoral candidate of the Kuomintang, received 52.2% support, while the Democratic Progressive Party mayoral candidate Cai Qichang only had 52.2% support. 21.4%. After seeing Lu Xiuyan’s data, Wu Zijia, a media person on the island, bluntly felt sad for Cai Qichang.
Lu Xiuyan comprehensively crushed Cai Qichang
Lu Xiuyan’s approval rating in August this year was 52.2%, which was far more than twice that of Cai Qichang. This is not its highest level of support. It once reached 63.0% in August last year. This is inseparable from Lu Xiuyan’s timely response to the epidemic at that time. But now, even with a drop of nearly 10 percentage points, the blue camp candidate is still guaranteed to win, while Cai Qichang suffered a disastrous defeat in all aspects.
As a native of Taichung’s Qingshui District, Tsai Chi-chang’s polls here should not be too far apart even if they are not higher than those of his competitors. However, it only has 34.5% support, while Lu Xiuyan’s is 47%, directly behind by more than ten percentage points. Even the district with the largest number of supporters cannot outstrip his opponents, and Cai Qichang's election situation at the end of the year is worrying.
In addition, from the age stratification point of view, Lu Xiuyan is also far better than Cai Qichang in every age group. Among young people aged 20 to 29, support for the former is 43.2%, while support for the latter is only 24.7%. Among those aged 30 to 39, support for the blue candidate is 54.7%, and support for the green candidate is 17.9%.
Cai Qichang was deeply influenced by Lin Zhijian
Observers said that looking back in time, the age group of 30-39 years old is the generation of the "anti-service trade movement". They should have been the most supportive of the Democratic Progressive Party, which originally stood on the same position. As a result, half of them now support the KMT candidate. The reason is that the Hsinchu Baseball Stadium incident had an impact on Cai Qichang's polls.
This incident has been criticized by the vast majority of the people on the island. It has nothing to do with the camp and will not cause different opinions due to political opinions. As the president of the Central Vocational School, Cai Qichang actually supported the culprit Lin Zhijian, which naturally caused a lot of dissatisfaction. There are four to five million people on the island who watch baseball games. When everyone is very angry about the problems with the new stadium, it will definitely affect the polls. In addition, there are many baseball fans in the 30-39 age group, and they will not vote for Cai Qichang.
At the same time, at the intellectual level, Cai Qichang was also dragged down by Lin Zhijian. After the thesis scandal was exposed, Lin Zhijian initially refused to admit it and even held a press conference to emphasize that he had not plagiarized. As a result, after the National Taiwan University investigation was completed, it was directly determined that he had plagiarized. Lin Zhijian immediately announced his withdrawal from the race for mayor of Taoyuan, and Cai Qichang was inevitably affected. This resulted in her support at the junior college level being only 25.3%, while Lu Xiuyan’s was 61.9%. For those with a college degree, 51.2% are for the latter and 24.2% are for the former.
Not only in Taichung City, but now the green camp’s overall electoral popularity on the island is lower than that of the blue camp. Except for a few strongholds, many counties and cities that once had close elections now favor the KMT. There are only three months left before the nine-in-one elections at the end of the year. It is worth looking forward to whether the Kuomintang will pursue the victory or the DPP will turn the tide.
