In the early morning of October 29, Apple’s official website quietly launched a new generation of true wireless Bluetooth headphones: AirPods Pro. Compared with AirPods, AirPods Pro has a huge change in appearance, mainly in that it changes from in-ear type to earbud type, and it also adds active noise reduction function in function.
Apple has directly equipped AirPods Pro with a headphone compartment that supports wireless charging function as standard this time. It can be charged with a Qi standard wireless charger, which is very convenient to put and charge at any time. Of course, the traditional Lightning charging interface continues to be used, and Apple also provides a USB-C to Lightning data cable as standard for AirPods Pro.
supports both wireless charging and wired charging. What is the compatibility of these two charging methods? Which one is faster? With this curiosity, the editor decided to conduct a charging test on AirPods Pro, let’s take a look.
1. Unboxing of Apple AirPods Pro Chinese version
The packaging box of AirPods Pro is very simple, using a white cardboard box without too many other color elements for decoration. A rendering of a pair of AirPods Pro headphones is printed on the front of the box to distinguish the categories of items inside the box and also to facilitate consumers' understanding of the product's appearance.
opens the package, which contains AirPods Pro headphones, headphone charging case, USB-C to Lightning data cable, as well as manuals, warranty cards and other paper documents.
The AirPods Pro charging case is made of white plastic material with piano paint technology. The surface is very smooth. The overall shape is relatively wide and long, with arc transitions all around. The overall feel is still relatively round and silky. There is a small dot on the front, which is the working indicator light of the charging compartment.
The AirPods battery compartment input is the same as previous generations, using the Lightning charging port.
Internal text information on the top cover of the charging compartment: Model: A2190, Apple Inc., earphone box power bank, made in China; input: 5V⎓1A, output: 5V⎓1A, rated capacity: 519mAh (PS: the first two generations of AirPods headphones Power bank input: 5.2V⎓2.4A, output: 5V⎓1A).

2. Test
1, compatibility test
AirPods Pro supports both wired and wireless charging methods. Below, the editor will select some chargers and wireless chargers to do a compatibility test for them.
①Charger
uses Apple's 18W PD charger to charge AirPods Pro. The fast charging protocol of this charger is PD only. The current voltage is 5.09V, the current is 0.33A, and the power is 1.69W. It can be charged normally.
uses the Zimi 18W PD charger to charge AirPods Pro. The fast charging protocols of this charger include PD, QC, AFC, and FCP. The current voltage is 5.02V, the current is 0.33A, and the power is 1.68W. It can be charged normally.
uses the Zimi 18W QC charger to charge AirPods Pro. This charger has QC fast charging protocol. The current voltage is 5.06V, the current is 0.32A, and the power is 1.66W. It can be charged normally.
②Wireless charger
uses Native Union wireless charger to charge AirPods Pro. The current wireless charging input voltage is 11.81V, the current is 0.27A, and the power is 3.27W. It can be charged normally.
uses mophie 10W wireless charger to charge AirPods Pro. The current wireless charging input voltage is 11.84V, the current is 0.23A, and the power is 2.78W. It can be charged normally.
uses Huawei 27W wireless charger to charge AirPods Pro. The current wireless charging input voltage is 8.9V, the current is 0.33A, and the power is 2.93W. It can be charged normally.
uses Xiaomi 20W wireless charger to charge AirPods Pro. The current wireless charging input voltage is 8.91V, the current is 0.25A, and the power is 2.25W. It can be charged normally.
2, full charging test
In addition, I Love Audio Network dismantled and learned that the AirPods Pro earphones use a German-made button-type lithium battery with an energy of 160mWh. The battery compartment of the AirPods Pro uses two pieces of 1.0 Wh batteries are connected in parallel to form a 2.0Wh battery pack. In other words, the total battery energy of the AirPods Pro+ headphone compartment is: 160mWh*2+2.0Wh="2".32Wh.
First, let’s take a look at the power changes when Apple’s 18W PD charger charges AirPods Pro.From the picture, you can see that the power rises to about 1.6W not long after charging. This power range remains for a short period of time and then rises to nearly 2W and fluctuates back and forth. Then the power curve began to stabilize after 10 minutes of charging. After many obvious drops and rises, the power became 1.61W after one hour and fifty minutes of charging, and it entered the constant voltage charging stage. The whole process took 2 hours and 35 minutes, and the maximum power of the whole process was 2.13W.
Then there is the power change when using Native Union wireless charger to charge AirPods Pro (wireless charger input). It can be seen from the chart that the overall fluctuation of the charging power of and this time has been large, and there are also many different and obvious power fluctuation ranges. The fluctuation range at the beginning of charging is 2.36~3.89W; the second more obvious fluctuation range is 0.43~4.47W; the third more obvious fluctuation range is 1.72~1.95W; the fourth more obvious fluctuation range is 0.43 ~2.67W. After one hour and eight minutes of charging, the charging power continued to repeat according to the third and fourth fluctuations. The whole process took 3 hours and 47 minutes, and the maximum power of the whole process was 4.47W.
Finally, let’s take a look at the power changes of AirPods Pro when using different charging methods (wired charging and wireless charging). The first is wired charging.
AirPods Pro uses wired charging to charge 23% of the battery for half an hour, 50% for one hour, and 75% for one and a half hours. The whole process takes 2 hours and 34 minutes.
uses wireless charging to charge 16% of the battery in half an hour, 27% in one hour, and 40% in one and a half hours. The whole process takes 3 hours and 47 minutes.
3. Summary of Charging Head Network
AirPods Pro has major changes compared to AirPods. In terms of appearance, the in-ear type has been changed to an earbud type, and an active noise reduction function has been added to the function; inside the earphones and charging compartment, the total battery capacity has increased from 1.726Wh to 2.32Wh, and the battery life has been greatly enhanced. In terms of
compatibility, it can be charged using either a PD charger or a QC charger, and the power is around 1.7W. The compatibility with wireless charging is also good. All tested brands of wireless chargers can charge it, and the input power is around 2W or 3W.
full charging test results show that wired charging is faster than wireless charging. Wired charging can charge 23% of the battery in half an hour, and wireless charging can charge 16% of the battery in half an hour. It takes 2 hours and 34 minutes to fully charge with wired charging, and 3 hours and 46 minutes with wireless charging. In general, if you are in a hurry to charge AirPods Pro, then use wired charging. Wireless charging is mainly reflected in convenience. You can charge it on the go and take it with you. If you have enough time to charge, such as at night, wired charging and wireless charging are better. You can charge both, whichever is more convenient for you to use.
