In the early days, people in my country's coastal areas "went to Southeast Asia" or traveled across the oceans to live overseas in order to make a living, forming an immigration phenomenon that "wherever there is water, there are Chinese."

Today, the number of overseas Chinese exceeds 10 million. The ideological tradition of overseas Chinese to love their family, remember their ancestors, and trace their roots is in the same vein as the land of China. However, due to the separation of mountains and rivers, long migration, and inconvenient communication, many overseas Chinese have lost contact with their relatives in their hometown and are on the road to trace their roots.

Toutiao Person Search has now set up the "Chinese Root Search" service to help Chinese people at home and abroad realize their wish to find relatives. Recently, Mr. Guo Jinming from Shanwei, Guangdong contacted Toutiao to seek help from the Chinese Roots Charity Project to find the grandfather of Vietnam Guo Niangtan.

now organizes Guo Niangtan’s information as follows. We also hope you can help forward it and help them reunite through a relay of love.

Name: Guo Niangtan

Time of birth: 12th day of the second lunar month, 1897

Origin: In front of Ganyuan, Chengdong Town, Haifeng County, Shanwei City, Guangdong Province Village

Relative information in hometown: Grandnephew Guo Jinming (grandson of the fourth brother)

Overseas contact address: Annan (today's Vietnam) Minggui Zongbiande Village Xinxiang City (later changed to Xinguan City)

Overseas relative information: Suspected to have 2 sons and 1 daughter, but the names are unknown

Other information: Guo Niangtan Qingcaopu business name was originally "Guo Shenji", and later changed to "Guo Liechang"

The following is a story about finding a relative:

Indochina is connected to the mountains and rivers of China and is one of the settlements where Chinese people, especially those in the Chaoshan region of my country, "sailed to Southeast Asia" in modern times.

Guo Niangtan, whose ancestral home is Haifeng, Shanwei, is the eldest of four brothers in her hometown. In the late 1940s, the four brothers of the Guo family fled and became separated. Among them, Guo Niangtan went to Vietnam in 1940 and opened a green grass shop in Xinxiang City (later changed to Xinguan City) in Biande Village, Minggui Village. The trade name was originally " Guo Shenji " and was later changed to " Guo Liechang ".

In 1953, the three younger brothers, who had not heard from their eldest brother for a long time, received photos (portraits) of Guo Niang Tan sent back to China from Vietnam. "This photo was brought back by a relative who lives in Hong Kong when he returned to his hometown to visit relatives." Relatives in his hometown heard that Guo Niangtan had two sons and one daughter in Vietnam, but their specific names were unknown.

Apart from this photo, my relatives in my hometown have never heard from Guo Niangtan. Relatives in Hong Kong also tried to contact Guo Niangtan, but there was no reply. Especially in the late 1970s, a large-scale anti-Chinese movement broke out in Vietnam, which made relatives back home always worried about the safety of overseas tourists.

"Now is the age of peace and the age of the Internet. I don't know if there will be a chance to find them." Guo Jinming hopes that his ancestors will find their missing Vietnamese relatives so that their descendants can come back and recognize their ancestors.
