The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Regional Air Pollution Prevention and Control Joint Research Expert Group integrated economic data, emission data, meteorological conditions and satellite remote sensing results to analyze the causes of this pollution process in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei and surrounding areas.
Based on the analysis of monitoring data over the years, although the frequency of heavy pollution, the peak concentration of pollutants, and the scope of the pollution process in North China were significantly improved in April compared with winter, persistent pollution processes have occurred throughout the years. Taking Beijing as an example, moderate or above pollution processes occurred in April from 2013 to 2016, and the number of severely polluted days were 2, 4, 1 and 1 day respectively. Although pollution shows a downward trend, it also shows that there is still the possibility of moderate to severe pollution processes in North China under unfavorable meteorological conditions in April.
