According to the Taichung Port Authority, at around 8 a.m. on August 1, they received a call for help from the container ship "Guangzhou Trader". The ship was located 6.4 nautical miles south of Taichung at that time.

Taichung Port Fire Department sent two fire trucks to the scene to spray water on the "Guangzhou Trader" wheel. One hour later, the burned container was unloaded. There are currently no reports of crew injuries.

Preliminary investigation shows that the cause of the fire of the container was that the electronic components in the second-hand bicycle were spontaneously ignited , but the specific cause of the fire still needs further investigation. It is understood that the container ship "Guangzhou Trader" has a capacity of 1700TEU. It was built in 2016 to serve the JTX service of CNC Line (Japan-China Taiwan-Thailand).
