The second day in Taiwan, we went to visit Shilin Official Residence.

Silin Official Residence is located at the junction of Section 5 of Zhongshan North Road and Fulin Road in Shilin District, Taipei City. It is surrounded by Fushan Mountains. It was originally a horticultural experimental institute during the Japanese era. Later, was quiet and surrounded by mountains on three sides, but the transportation was very convenient. was personally selected by the then provincial government chairman Chen Cheng as the official residence of Jiang Zhongzheng and Soong Mei-ling after retreating to Taiwan.

Shilin Official Residence As Chiang Kai-shek's residence, the access control was tight for many years, and it was not until the later period that people were open to visit. The official residence is divided into two parts: the garden and the official residence. The greenhouse potted planting area and rose garden in the garden are said to be Mrs. Jiang’s favorite place. The garden has the dual styles of Chinese garden and Western garden. The nursery, flower art and sculpture are full of strong Western style. The arch bridges, curved pools and flowing water make people feel like they are in Chinese gardens.

Chinese and Western styles are aggregated in one place at the same time. They do not appear abrupt and weird, but have a different kind of beauty. From this we can see the respective preferences and styles of Chiang Kai-shek and Soong Mei-ling. The combination of a completely Westernized intellectual woman like Soong Mei-ling and a warlord and bureaucrat who still retains feudal ideas is as amazingly harmonious as this garden.
Curve Bridge and Pavilion
Shilin Official Residence is a blue-gray two-story building with a large meeting room downstairs. Upstairs is the living space of Mr. Jiang and his wife. Although the whole building is Western, the atmosphere presented by the interior furnishings still retains Chinese tradition. Jiang Zhongzheng and his wife moved here in May 1950 until they died of illness in 1975, and spent 26 years there.

walked into the gate of the official residence, and faced with a large dragon and phoenix root carving entrance hall. Four Chinese paintings written by Soong Mei-ling were hung on the wall of the hall. It is said that after Soong Mei-ling went to Taiwan, she became fascinated by Chinese painting and studied with famous masters, painting orchids, bamboos, and landscapes, almost forgot to eat and sleep. Later, her paintings were indeed very skilled. It can be said that Soong Mei-ling was an outstanding woman in any aspect. The floor through the hall is covered with dark red carpets, and the styles of tables, chairs and furniture are also a combination of Chinese and Western styles. Because photography is prohibited indoors, and the living scenes at home, I think it is inconvenient and unnecessary for outsiders to take pictures, so no video information is left.
The second-story building where Chiang Kai-shek and his wife lived was a small living room, and above the fireplace was hung with an oil painting portrait of Chiang Kai-shek's mother Wang Caiyu . Chiang Kai-shek was a filial son, but his mother died in an early age and gave him little chance to be filial, so before he fled to Taiwan, he often went to his hometown in Xikou, Fenghua to pay tribute to his mother. I have been to Xikou . Chiang Kai-shek built a "Ci'an" not far from his mother's grave. Every time he returns to Xikou, he regards Ci'an as his home and lives here to accompany his mother. When Chiang Kai-shek was in Taiwan, he often played checkers and Go with his children and grandchildren in this small living room, enjoying the joy of family.

Years of strict vigilance have put the Shilin Official Residence on a veil of mystery, and it is difficult for the public to imagine Chiang Kai-shek's family life. Now that Lushan is truly revealed, it turns out that in Shilin official residence, there is also a family and emotional warmth like the common people in the city.
