According to Taiwan's "Central News Agency", the United States Trade Representative (USTR) announced on the evening of the 17th local time that it had officially launched the "21st Century Trade Initiative" negotiations with Taiwan, and the first round of negotiations is expected to be held early this fall.

Chang'an Street Governor previously reported that in June this year, the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party authorities claimed that they would initiate trade negotiations with the United States on the so-called "US-Taiwan 21st Century Trade Initiative", with the goal of "achieving high-standard and economically significant trade agreements."

Regarding this so-called initiative, China's Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have repeatedly expressed their solemn statements and firmly opposed it.

In June this year, US President Biden visited Japan and South Korea to sell the " Indo-Pacific Economic Framework ". The Taiwan authorities had high hopes for joining the economic framework, but were excluded from the list at that time. Then it was reported that the US-Taiwan "21st Century Trade Initiative" was reported, and the outside world analyzed that the US's move was intended to appease.

Taiwan media said that the United States and Taiwan held their first consultation at Washington at the end of June. Deng Zhenzhong, the "Executive Yuan Government Affairs Committee member" of the Taiwan authorities, was diagnosed with new coronavirus pneumonia and changed to video participation. Xiao Meiqin, who was recently listed as a "Taiwan independence" diehard, went to participate.

The United States and Taiwan claimed at the time that "discussed the trade initiative roadmap" in an effort to reach an agreement with "high standards of commitment and economically significant results."

htmlOn the evening of August 17, USTR issued a press release saying that the "American Association in Taiwan" and the "Taiwan Representative Office in the United States" reached a consensus and officially launched the negotiation process.

Sarah Bianchi, deputy U.S. trade representative, claimed in a press release that the launch of the negotiations will "deepen the trade and investment relations between the United States and Taiwan, promote common trade priorities based on shared value between the two sides, and promote innovative and inclusive economic growth for labor enterprises."

Taiwan media reported that the negotiation areas of the United States and Taiwan include: trade facilitation, good regulations and practice, anti-corruption, small and medium-sized enterprises, agriculture, standards, digital trade, labor, environment, "state-owned" enterprises and non-market policies and practices.

After the United States and Taiwan released the negotiation news in early June this year, US media analyzed that high-tech industries such as Taiwan semiconductors are one of the "fat meat" that the United States likes.

"Wall Street Journal " reported that US officials are increasingly worried that East Asian semiconductors are "too concentrated production", and Taiwan is at the core of this issue. The report also reminded that the announcement of the "trade initiative" by the United States and Taiwan may make the U.S.-China relations even tighter.

At the press conference of the Ministry of Commerce of China on June 2, spokesperson Gao Feng said that the US and Taiwan region announced the launch of the so-called "US-Taiwan 21st Century Trade Initiative", and China firmly opposes this.

Gao Feng stressed that the Taiwan issue is related to China's core interests. One China Principle is the prerequisite for Taiwan to participate in foreign economic cooperation. China has always opposed any form of official exchanges between any country and Taiwan, including the negotiation and signing of any economic and trade agreement with sovereignty and official nature.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian also said that the DPP authorities should dispel the calculation of "relying on the United States to seek independence" as soon as possible, otherwise the higher they jump, the worse they fall.
